Question Data Plan Requirement: Going from Smartphone to Dumbphone

My husband recently broke his 4 month old smartphone. I have received the rebate and used the gift card. If I activate a dumbphone, can i remove the data plan? I don't want to pay for a data plan if he can barely use the web. Is this possible?

You can drop down to the $10 a month 200MB plan but they will make you keep data for the full 2 years of the contract. I went through a similar thing last year and was told that the data is required on the upgraded line regardless of what kind of phone is now on it. It stinks but it's how they make their money.

To heck with flowers and candy, leave the jewelry at the store, but when it comes to cell phones, I always want one more.

You used to be able to remove the smartphone data if you "upgraded" to a dumbphone in-store, but that's that's not the case anymore. You will have to keep at least the $10/mo data plan on your account til the contract is over. Which to me, is fair, you got a substantial discount on the smartphone in exchange for agreeing to a data plan for 24 months. It's not T-Mo's fault if the phone is lost or broken.
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.
