Back in March 2003, I got my first t-Mobile phone. At that time I had an add-on for "TMobile Int 2VPN" for $9.99 so that I could tether my phone to my laptop. Well I've never updated my plan and I have had various phones over the years (not from t-mobile). And I have successfully been using my internet plan. I also have an AT&T account and an iPhone. When I upgraded my iphone 3 to the iphone 4, I put my t-Mobile sim in and used my old iphone 3. Yup only EDGE but it worked for what I wanted.
Well I just acquired a Nokia Lumia 710, (not from t-Mobile) my question is: If I put my sim card in and starting using 4g will t-Mobile come after me to upgrade my data plan? Or would it be better to keep the phone at EDGE? Yes I know the phone takes a micro sim. That is not an issue.
There are no reports of any requirements to upgrade data plans used with the Lumia. However, I believe that the tethering ability of the device is blocked. Since you have your tethering plan, maybe that will override any block.
T-mobile USA does not have any 4G network theoretically.
you cannot get 4G on t-mobile USA, because not exist!!
If you did not subscribe the data plan, than you may hit by "pay per use". not such thing automatically upgraded without subscriber's permission.
they may block you to access data, or bring you to upgrade option web page.

LOL!
T-mobile is a German company, not is an English company.
why are you using a German company , not on an English company ?
What hell is wrong with you ?.

in a real response to the OP, it will most likely not work, you wont be forced to change your plan but it will most likely give you a "Subscription upgrade required" message in the browser, although on my HD7, i've found i can use pretty much whatever plan i want with it and T-Mobile does not seem to care, so the Lumia may be like that as well.

OK. so the worse that can happen is that I would be forced to continue with edge. Which worked fine for me when I had it in my iPhone 3. The real purpose of the Lumia 710 was so that I had a phone available for international travel. Yes it is unlocked. It will be intersting to see if I can get away with 4g.

This is more baseless information. There are many reports of the Lumia working successfully on plans like tzones. There are no reports of it being blocked. So contrary to what you stated it most likely WILL work.

EDGE doesn't have anything to do with it. The device either works on a data plan or it doesn't. If the Lumia works on EDGE it will work on 4G and vice-versa.
The iPhone3 does not have T-Mobile's 3G/4G frequency so that's why it only works on EDGE.
