Wondering if there are Benefits, Reasons or Purpose for this at all!!
My cousin in New Jersey has Verizon Wireless and asked me/was wondering if there are any Benefits, Reasons or Purposes to using a Hybrid PRL instead of a Native Verizon PRL? Because being he lives in New Jersey and has Native Verizon Coverage/Native PRL on his cell phone, I didn't know the answer, so I thought I would ask on here. Thanks!
Um, I wasn't aware there were any particular Hybrid PRL's for NJ, though he could be on a non standard verizon one if he has some old Alltel type of account/prl or something I suppose.
As for benefit though. I can't imagine there being one. Verizon covers basically every square inch of NJ. So long as he doesn't go to other states, there should be no reason to access other networks as roaming isn't usually 3g, and verizon's 3g speeds are the best on cdma at least, and there is no 4g lte on sprint to roam on or anything and such roaming won't happen. So a native prl seems best in NJ.
No benefit whatsoever. For a VZW customer, a hybrid PRL would prefer Alltel over Verizon Wireless. For an Alltel customer, the hybrid would prefer Verizon Wireless over Alltel. These mainly made a difference if you were in an area with overlapping Verizon Wireless and Alltel service
There were 2 main situations wher you'd use one: 1) Someone who got strong Alltel coverage, switched to Verizon Wireless phones/plans/etc., and (since the networks weren't combined yet) found the coverage at home/work/whatever was poor. The hybrid went back to prefering Alltel. 2) Misc. integration realated issues... since VZW was combining two networks capacity and coverage, inevitably whatever is being added to one network is being removed from the other. VZW seemed to keep this reasonably smooth, but people who did run into capacity or coverage problems didn't have to just suck it up, they could get a hybrid PRL.
All that said, I think the integration was finished up by 2011.

I understand, but being my cousin lives in NJ and has Verizon Wireless but uses a Hybrid PRL on his phone. That doesn't make any sense does it? Atleast to me it doesn't. I don't think he needs to have a Hybrid PRL still on his phone when all of NJ has Native Verizon Wireless Coverage. So to me there is no point in having and using a Hybrid PRL when it's not going to make much of a difference and matter any. Isn't that right and don't ya agree? Should I tell him to call Verizon and have his Hybrid PRL changed to a Native PRL? Thanks!
Did Alltel ever have native service in NJ??? It does not make sense since My understanding is a hybrid will place Alltel towers first. There is not one to put VZW first. If that was the case, VZW would have lost one of their selling points to switch from an Alltel plan.
And all conversions are done, so a hybrid would have horrible service.
So basically your saying that he has no reason to still have a Hybrid PRL on his cell phone when all of NJ is in a Native Verizon Wireless Coverage right? Since he has a Hybrid PRL on his phone, if he left it on his phone instead of calling Verizon and having it changed to a native one, can it (the hybrid prl) cause problems on his phone any later on down the road or something? I was just curious and thought I would ask, because if so, then I wil def tell him to call Verizon and have it changed asap.
