Hello;
Tried searching for this but could not find the magic combo to get the right answer.
Wife is on the corporate plan, and is eligible for an upgrade this spring. She currently has an iPhone 4 (inherited from me when I upgraded on my corp plan), and is very happy with it. She does not want a new phone.
Problem is, we do some travel and Bell refuses to unlock my,or her, iPhones. We are not interesting in jailbreaking so that we can unlock.
I was thinking of getting a cheapo Android phone on Ebay.
Last night I was thinking that we might be able to get her upgrade this spring (ie. a Samsung Galaxy S II) for $0, and have Bell just not transfer the SIM to the new phone.
Will Bell allow us to walk in, renew for 3 years, but walk out with the new phone without activating it on the network? Or would I have to go though getting the phone, transferring it to the new Samsung, and then switching it again ourselves when we get home?
No with HSPA, the phone number is tied to the SIM card, not the actual device itself. If you want to switch between a SGSII and an iPhone 4, you can do this anytime just move the SIM card between the devices, no need to call Bell. You will need a microSIM adapter though to use the SGSII.
I can't promise that it will work for you, but a reasoned letter to the head office might get your iphone unlocked (oh yeah, and a prolonged game of phone tag and $75)
Good luck, it doesn't hurt to try
