250ft is hard for most routers you can buy at a box store.

You can go about this two ways:

If your barn is a metal Quonset your only reliable option is to go from the barn back to the house. Being wireless, metal reflects and distorts the signals, so just shooting wireless over to the barn doesn't do anything for you. So you would be putting an antenna on the barn and pointing it at your house in what's called a Bridge.

If your barn is made of wood, the wood can still absorb the signal (the denser the wood, the worse it gets) but it can go through it fairly well in most cases especially if there's a window facing the house. You could use a really big antenna/Access Point to shoot a wireless signal over to the barn, and see if it works.

Those are kind of the two ways to do it, aside from doing both ends and connecting two of the big antennas together, which will actually do two things for you. If there is a bridge in the barn, then you can have a router hooked up in there for other devices as well as wireless. You will also have a much stronger signal between the two points, so less chance of outside interference.

I install these devices to do just what you are looking for: http://engeniuscanada.com/enh200.html

This device would be used to bridge the two locations together. I have done a 2 mile shot with them before, and they're fairly cheap.

edit: I also wanted to add, that it doesn't matter how big the antenna you put on a building to bridge is, if the device on the other end doesn't have the power to push back, it won't be a stable signal or it won't have the speed you may need to stream your ufc. It really depends what equipment is in place, is there a road in between the barn and your house where you park loaders and such, all these things come into play.

If you want to provide long range (up to 1 mile) WiFi coverage, I suggest you get an outdoor, weather proof access point, like the EnGenius EOC1650 and mount it on a mast outside your house. Your laptop also needs a good WiFi adapter. The built-in adapter may not be good enough.

Thanks for the info. Turns out that frontier is sending me a new modem that's also a wireless router its the westel 7500. I don't know anything about it or how well it works or how far it will each. Might need some way to extend the range.
