Is it safe to add a 4G mobile hotspot add on via online? (have $29.99 unlimited data)

A little confused since I added Verizon a couple of months ago. Line was added on to an exisiting Verizon account.

Anyways, I did the loophole to obtain unlimited smartphone LTE data for $29.99 with my Galaxy Nexus LTE.

I may move temporarily to a new location and it may be a couple of weeks before we get cable internet setup.

I have previously called customer service and they added the unlimited mobile 4G hotspot for $30. I canceled it last month.

So the question is does it make a difference if I add the 4G mobile hotspot $30 online or should I call customer service to add it back on?

Online, I don't see it mentioned as "unlimited 4G mobile hotspot". I just see 4G mobile hotspot $30. This is what I see via the online account manager

    4G Mobile Hotspot

    Mobile Broadband Connect

Use your Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Smartphone as a modem to get instant online access on your computer.

    Mobile Hotspot

Using your 4G LTE Smartphone, share your data allowance with multiple Wi-Fi-enable devices. No additional drivers or software necessary.

Requires an unlimited data package / plan subscription of $29.99 or higher

Yeah, you're fine to add it online.

How about removing it online? I've had unlimited for years, but no longer need the 4G unlimited hotspot. I don't want to lose anything, though.

You should be just fine with adding and removing the unlimited data hotspot feature without it affecting the unlimited data feature on your plan. The only way you can currently lose your unlimited data is if you yourself move to another, tiered data package.

I've added 4G Mobile hotspot and removed it over the Christmas holidays with no changes to my unlimited data plan. I even had the fee discounted since I have a discoune on my account.

Yup, adding the $30 hotspot to $30 unlimited is fine.

In a more general sense, the way VZW's web site is designed, you wouldn't have to worry about accidentally knocking off your unlimited -- the way the site's designed, if a feature needed a new data plan, it'd ask you to select one with a nice fat cancel button on the bottom to bail out of the whole thing. Heck, it's even asked me for permission to add $0 options (in one case one just to indicate the phone supported over the air firmware updates.)
