    LG Optimus on Net10 @ $99.99...Navigation Possible?

Thinking of getting this for my brother's birthday as he could use the navigation/GPS...however, I can't confirm that this phone is capable. Does anyone have experience with this phone...likes/dislikes. And assuming complete access to Android market. And has anyone tried any of the hot spot apps available in the market? MUCH appreciated HoFo'ers!

Sale on these at Radio Shack.

You are correct to research this or make sure there is an excellent and easy return policy. These Sprint operated phones are not going over very well so there is little being posted about them. There is the big problem of sparce coverage, which may render the use of GPS impossible (depends on if constant data access is necessry).

Thanks Trac. I have one line on a VM Optimus (Sprint native I think) and here in N.Cal., I get pretty good coverage/signal..that said, the data is S L O W most of the times. I read on the box it was CDMA S, so it seems to be Sprint. Hopefully someone will post additional on this phone and thanks again for your input.

I had an One line on an Optimus S, navigation worked, as well as 3g data speeds. Sprint carrier, but I switched to net10, as the Sprint coverage here in Central Ca. coastal mountains is poor. I miss my hi-speed data, but need the calling/txting capability I get with Net10 more than the data, as I can use the Optimus on Wi-Fi.

I have now seen posts on the Straight Talk forum saying that constant data is not always required for navigation. Hopefully someone with user experienced will post.

With Android phones, constant data isn't always needed, but if you make a wrong turn, it won't be able to recalculate. It just needs the data to load the maps and directions. I think there is also a way to download all of the maps on the MicroSD card. That way, you don't need a signal at all to use the GPS. That might cost money.. I'm not sure.. You'll need to see what application will download the maps to the phone.
