Makes the Comet again something to consider at $100 with $50 credit. Plenty of threads on the pluses and minuses of this phone. Too bad 1) Tmobile knew that the $100 Dart with $50 credit would be a smoking deal (I would have bought one despite not needing another Android device) and 2) they haven't matched their store deal of $250 Nokia Lumia with $50 refill. (though store apparently requires activation usually)

    Another midnight sale

The Optimus T is $70 off ($80, was $150) for 6 hours today. Can’t seem to get the special price to come up, but it may also include the $50 card, making it $30 for a brand new Optimus T Android phone.

I'm not seeing the $80 price. As of 9 PM PST the Web site is showing me an after hours sale price of $149.99 ($30 off the regular online price of $179.9). There's a $50 dollar SIM card included making the effective price $99.99 not $70.

I had the Optimus T for 2-3 weeks and it's a very good phone...but, with every call I made, as soon as it connected, it made a loud popping noise..very annoying and after a few resets with c/s, I returned it. I have the Optimus V on Virgin, and I did notice that the GSM T-Mo version gave me better battery life..don't know if CDMA burns more though.

Would the Comet be a good purchase to have as a Wifi hotspot?
For $50 bucks it sounds like a good deal to try.
Any spec limitations that may prevent this phone to be used as a Wifi hotspot?
Is this a 7 HSPA phone? Is Wifi tethering allowed out of the box or would a root be needed?

I have a Comet and it works great as a WiFi hot spot.
I didn't do anything to the phone to get it to work as a hot spot.

I don't know about the specs but know it worked very well for me when we didn't have internet at home for 6 months. I didn't use it for the entire 6 months as a hot spot but it sure helped out between going to the library to use their internet and using the Comet as a WiFi hot spot.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 6.12) T-Mobile Dash)

are there any hoops to jump thru to get the $50 card refill card activated? the t&c's sound like you have to activate the sim for the refill card to work.

Tmobile may always change how it works, but in every past deal the additional refill card is a separate (and often loose, stuck in the corner of the box) refill card that you can apply to any account. I have never had to activate the SIM that came with the phone.

I'm thinking of picking up either the Comet or Optimus T refurbished ones for my wife's first android phone.

Any thoughts on which one would be better for a slightly non-techy android newby?

I found the Comet to be very easy to use and a huge plus is call quality on the Comet.
Excellent call quality and the signal grabbing ability is great on it too.

The only shortcoming I have found with the Comet is the camera, but that has to be something with Huawei because I have 3 different Huawei phones and all of them have not so great cameras.
