    Online account idiocy.

I'm seeing an issue that I currently can't find a workaround for. I just got a text from VM telling me that my secret question has expired. I don't recall ever setting up a secret question, but OK.

On my desktop I go login to my account, and go to change my secret question. Problem: they have combined the secret question change and PIN change on the same screen. You cannot fill in just one section, so in order to change your secret question, you MUST change your pin, and your new PIN can never be the same as the old one.

So how the [CENSORED] can I change the secret question without changing my PIN?

I suppose I could have called VM and asked, but I didn't feel like spending a half hour on hold only to wind up speaking with someone who understands less English than my cat.

If you can't do this, they probably won't let you do this anymore, for security reasons. I wouldn't be surprised if their algorithm is forcing this onto accounts that don't have security questions.

Most likely, you can blame the recent media blowup in the UK over voicemail hacking for VM's new interest in voicemail PIN security.

My guess is that the reps won't help you get around this. Change the security question and the PIN and accept our thanks for raising the issue here.

I would be less paranoid if VM didn't recently have a string of Facebook users asking how to get into phones they've just "discovered" randomly.

Try calling CS. I called Virgin CS last week with a different issue and they told me I had to change my secret question which I did over the phone. They didn't make me change my PIN.
