Yes and it comes with one.

    What's in the box?

    • SIM Card

From what I saw, I thought these require the mobile broadband plans.. ie you can't use a phone plan with data (one of the monthly or daily) and put it in the SIM as Tmobile blocks the IMEI of these devices.
I personally have not tried one.. for $10 might consider the gamble

I'm not sure, when I look at the Rocket it lists the broadband cards as something to buy with it, but this it does not have them on the page offered so it might work with the daily plans.

You'll need a broadband plan to go with it.. It's the same on the postpaid side. Good deal though if you need it, I just wish they'd up the amount of data included!
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.

Broadband prices are higher than prepaid daily plans. For instance for 10 bucks (7 day broadband price for 100MB) I could get 3 days of the 3 dollar plan and have about 600MB of data with the First 200MB of each day at 4G speeds.

    Hence..the..hubabaloo

Tmobile's gotten much more generous on data on their phone+data plans but not so much on their data only plans. Too bad. I basically used the $30 Walmart plan as a 5GB hotspot, never using minutes or text on the Android phone it was on. It'd be nice if they offered the same 5 gigs for $30 on a data only plan. I'd even take 3 gigs (which is a $50 monthly fee now) -- $10 a gig seems fair.

Pretty sure it won't, I got shut down even when trying to use an old option air card that was formerly data jack...

That is what I plan on doing for those times when I need to have data. What phone are you using as your hotpost? I am not sure though if Tmobile has any limits on activations as I was planning on signing to this $30 with 5GB and at the end of the month let it expire. Then sign on again when needed.

Yep. They are missing data blocks for the prepaid crowd.

So what exactly happens if you use one of these with a prepaid SIM? Does it connect to the network at all? Do you get a T-Mobile error page message when you try using it and going to a website?

I have used a Sidekick 4G, Huwaei Comet and LG G2X all with the $30 plan as a wifi hotspot. Basically any Android 2.2 phone that isn't too recent (since Tmo put tethering manager on the newer phones) works fine out of the box. For the others, you have to root them.

Did you have to root the sidekick 4g? Looking for the cheapest way to tether/wifi hotspot with tmobile prepaid.
