    Port Issues with T-Mobile

First just to rant, why is porting a US number such a major pain? In Canada it takes 30 minutes and it is done.

I walked into a T-Mobile location. Activated the dummy phone number (as it appears this is the only way to do it... sighs)
I gave the girl in store a copy of my AT&T contract and online profile I printed out
4 days later still on the dummy number (called and was told they are "working on it"...)

How long does a port usually take?
Is T a "normal" port or are they just slow?
It is sad I need to state the obvious but some people just don't get it. Any posts I make are my own OPINIONS and in no way represent the views of my employer

    Prepaid or regular?
Porting in on prepaid is a pain, but you can be persistent and get transferred to the right department via the phone they'll take care of it immediately. Its a pain because every body you talk to sees you are prepaid (got the 'taint') and wants to transfer you to prepaid customer service, when its a special department that handles porting issues for ALL Tmobile.

If you can get to that special department rather than prepaid customer service, they generally can take care of the problem immediately. Just have to play CSR roulette till you win

Ideally, a port shouldn't take more than a few hours.

It's finally done! (although when I called back it was late so TMo said customer service closed, they gave an emergency number (?) so I tried calling it and got someone who knew what they were doing)
Port completed in less than 12 hours (although rep who did it warned that as being pushed through it can cause issues with calling 911 while porting is happening)
