Hey all,
I'm in an interesting situation where I bought my razr maxx on Friday, January 27th. I'm looking to get my wife a new phone and would like to take advantage of the BOGO deal. According to my calculations, my window for return ends on Thursday, February 9th. I called a local Verizon rep and he said I could return it until Friday, February 10th. This sounds to me like the first day of the third week but he was insistent it was the last day of the second week.
With that in mind, I have two questions:
1) Can someone verify that there is in fact going to be a BOGO on Razr's starting this Friday?
2) Can anyone verify how exactly Verizon calculates their return window?
I REALLY appreciate it as this will save me a few hundred bucks if I work the system right. Don't hate, I don't create the rules, I just follow them.
What I've done in the past is return a phone within the period and waited to get a new phone. I got them to reset my two year price and basically used a cheap phone for a few weeks till the phone I wanted came out. It can be tricky though and took two days for them to reset my two year upgrade status. It may be an option since technically the 10th is one day out of 14 days.
I talked to a VZW agent on the web. They couldn't confirm the bogo deal (figures..) but they did say that my last date for return is the 9th. So, if you buy it on a Friday, the last day for return is a Thursday.
I asked two agents and got two different answers. One just quickly answered me (and said Friday), the other actually checked the computer (and said Thursday).

Well, not exactly. If I bought a phone at noon on Friday, the 14th day would end at 11:59AM on Friday. It's basically a rounding issue. No one buys their phone at midnight on the first day, so you are not getting 14 full days with the way they do it. To simplify things, they seem to make it that any part of a day counts as a full day, but this distinction is not made in their return policy.
The guy I talked to at a local store actually said to me, "technically, your 14th day ends at 1:30PM on Friday but we just allow you to do it anytime during that day".
This is an issue that exists everywhere. If you go park at the airport, it specifically says "$5 per hour or any part of an hour". The VZW return policy doesn't say "or any part of", which is where my confusion is. I know how to count days.
Vz used to give you two weeks from the day but they seemed to change that. I've bought a phone on a Monday and returned two Mondays later but those were the old days.
Friday is the 15th day. It's not hardball, it's math.
It's still hard ball any way you look at it. If you buy on a Monday at 2pm, 14 days later would be two Mondays later. Technically speaking. Depends on what the writing in contract says ultimately.

There is a difference between "14 days" and "14 days later". In this case, the first day, is "day one".
And just like with voice minutes where any portion of a minute counts as a full minute, any portion of a day, counts as a full day.
