Prepaid Sim While travelling in the US

    Hi,
I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy SII with Virgin mobile Canada. Will be travelling to Maui for a couple of weeks in March and am thinking of getting a prepaid SIM, prefereably with some data included. Can anyone comment on if this will work?

Is it a pretty easy process to do this (ie walk in to store, and buy SIM) or is there some kind of application required? Would I be better of going with another carrier such as AT&T?

    Thanks

For Hawaii the two sim companys work. ATT and TMOBILE. TMO is cheaper and works well in Hawaii. You can get a plan for 30 bucks online at TMO or Walmart for 100minutes, But unlimited text and a whopping 5gig data. You may be saying but its only 100 minutes. No biggiel Download Google Voice and use Voice on your data. Its a loop hole TMO has not closed. works well. My kid does this plan. Does all calls on Google Voice.

The only downside to using your GS2 with T-mobile is you will be on the edge network... Slow data speeds... Still better then nothing and as the last posted mentioned you can use google voice to make calls back home... A T-mobile sim will run you about 7 bucks...
Make sure you have your phone unlocked before you go

The best bet is either T-Mobile $3/day (unlimited calling+messaging+200MB) or Red Pocket (AT&T MVNO) depends on your model.
If this is rounded model (same as Telus), get T-Mobile prepaid (you can buy SIM kit and put in $100 and get Gold Reward).
But if this is "squared" model like AT&T, get Red Pocket (or Walmart Straight Talk).

Thats subjective on your $3 per day rate. That is $93 a month. With a smart phone on Tmo system. Unless you put it in AIRPLANE mode and even there its not for sure. There will be a data exchange. That triggers a full $3 day use. The best plan on TMO is $60 for Unlimited calls, Text and 2g of date.

Also I thought my last visit to moms in Kauai in AUG that I got 4g speed there not EDGE. However I dont fully recall so I could be wrong. That gold stuff is only for PREPAID. Not Monthly pay as you go as I mentioned above. So I would if it was me and traveling in USA proper with a Droid would be going the $60 unlimited. OR the $30 buck 5g data and use Google voice. IMO
