adam3rd I'm interested in following this process (the better with more detail one), but I want to understand how doing so would affect my phone permanently. I've never flashed a phone, but is that what I'd be doing in essence? If down the road I wanted to go back to my stock phone setup/programming/whatever the term, could I do that and if so how please? FYI - I have a Verizon Bionic. Thanks in advance.
You can simply data reset the phone and it will go back to all the defaults except for the prl that will update for anyone automatically if they activate with Verizon

Okay. I am stuck on this step "scroll down to the port your phone is connected to and select it and click connect." Took me FOREVER to find what's called the Port button in CDMA. But now when I press it, no ports are found. I feel I have followed all the directions precisely, so I do not know how to resolve my problem. Help again please.
Open the device manager and find which port you're device is on. If the port number us too high, you might have to boot the computer up with the phone booted to diag mode.

Thanks. I tried that and did not see it listed under the USB section. I looked again based on your reply. I found it under DVD & CD-ROMs??? What's with that!? What did I do wrong or miss?
Did you boot up your phone in diagnostic mode?

The phone should be listed in the Ports part of device manager

I do not see a Ports section???
I still do not have a Ports section in Device Manager. The good news is when I select Ports in CDMA, I see a port for my Bionic now. Here's what I had to do to get there. On the Bionic in the notifications area (grey with black USB icon), I went into the USB Connection manager. It was set to USB Mass Storage. I switched it to PC Mode.
I am on this step now - "click read to make sure you are connected (you should see the imei number among other things on the left side of the window)." Under Phone Information on the left nothing is populated. CDMA only sees 1 port - Motorola USB Modem. Maybe I'm still not in the correct USB mode on the Bionic???
Okay... forget what I said about the USB Connection manager. I found a step I did not know about way before this causing my problem. Back between these steps "3. volume down to the last entry bptools and 4.phone will power on in diagnostic mode," I had to (step 3b) Hit the up volume button, causing Bptools to be selected. I was just highlighting it and doing nothing while the phone booted. Now I have a Ports section in Device Manager. Now 4 ports appear in CDMA. I will use the one called Motorola QC Diag Port.
That's the one
