I can't think of any free ones. voip.ms might not be bad as you can put just a few dollars of credit on an account and try it out.

I signed up the Dell Voice thing. I submitted feedback asking them to include a "launch at startup" option in the settings. I wish everyone will ask for this--it's the one thing I hate about it. I won't use it most of the time, so I don't want it always running. I would only really use it when I'm roaming and have access to WIFI.

I did notice that if you login on their website you can do a few more things than you can do through the app. The only really interesting one is that you can set up call forwarding there.

The website also allows you to pay $50 to get a "SIP key" that would allow you to use the Dell Voice number on a SIP phone. That's kind of interesting. For $50 you could get rid of the app on your phone, and also wind up using it for several other things.

$50 goes pretty far on VOIP.ms, although Dell is offering free Canada wide calling and such. Might be interesting to somebody, for now I'll pass on that.

LOL and I found out how you can keep trying numbers until you get one you like. When you get to your fourth try and it tries to force you to click "continue" don't. Instead go back to the confirmation email and click that again. You get another four tries. And again, and again, until you get a number you like.

The only thing I found on the thread was how to close the app after it started. I didn't see anything on the thread about preventing it from starting in the first place. I can live with having to manually close it every time my phone boots, but I would rather not have to.

I did try killing it with tasker but no luck. Perhaps if I rooted my phone.

Sounds a lot like freephoneline.ca ... On the site when signing up it was easy to cycle through numbers to find one you like. And the $50 (or was it $25?) fee to get native SIP access to the service.

In fact dell voice is actually freephoneline with dell branding and the addition of Android and iPhone apps.

The phone app is really messed up on my android. Sound is through the speaker all the time (not the headset and the speaker on/of button has no functionality). Also, the individual "key touch areas" or whatever they're called are larger than the actual displayed keys so it only fits 4 touch keys or so on the screen (no ability to scroll either). The only way I can make calls is to integrate outgoing calls with the system - i.e. all calls are made through the app. Other serious bugs too, but there's no mention of that here, so I guess I'll have to blame it on my phone (reinstalled 3 times already, same issues) and get rid of this piece of junk. The service is free though, so I can't complain. The PC app works great though!

I also sent it to a friend and he said it's not on the iPhone App Store anymore (or the link from the fongo site is dead), but many of you seem to have it, so he probably just didn't look properly.

Is there any app or company that could do this for my Blackberry?

You'd have to look for a traditional SIP provider. I don't think any of them are free. You COULD pay the $50 for the SIP key from Fongo/Dell Voice and use that on your Blackberry. It would be a one time fee but $50 would go pretty far on voip.ms or another traditional SIP provider, and your BB should support that no problem.

Dell voice says "coming soon" for Blackberry, so it would depend how soon they plan to release the BB version...
Looking forward to Wind HSPA coverage improvements within the home zones. I can't wait for 5-bars everywhere! And at least some coverage in all major buildings... Especially Rideau Centre and St. Laurent Centre in Ottawa.

I can't wait for this to be the norm on wireless!

You share the same thoughts and use for Dell Voice as I do. I have it installed, but won't be useful until I am roaming with Wifi. I am also using voip.ms as my landline and have debated for over a year on whether or not I should switch to FPL/DV, but like you mentioned $50 goes a long way with voip.ms and I make use of several features with voip.ms that I would NOT be able to use with FPL.

Has anyone got any comment on the call quality of Dell Voice / FPL versus voip.ms?

Both seem to work for me but I haven't used either extensively enough to judge whether there is a significant difference in quality.

I've used voip.ms for 3 years as my primary line at home and it's always sounded good. Just like any regular landline. Used freephoneline on and off at a different property and it was always good as well. This was over DSL/Cable internet connections though. Actually one time used voip.ms at home through a wind data stick and it worked quite well.
