    Has anyone noticed faster data?

I have been getting crazy download speeds lately. Has anyone else noticed?

I was barely able to pull 1 Mb/s at Futureshop on Pembina yesterday around 2 in the afternoon.

10 would be more like it.

    I've been averaging 3 Mb/s, with a low of 1.5 and a high of 4.

Its pretty random. Every once in a while at the right spot and time of day I can get 8mbps just outside the north perimeter.

The fastest I ever tested was wifi tethered (less reliable reading?) to my laptop 12.9mbps.

I'm getting the same crappy speeds (< 2000 Mb/sec) I always get during the day in downtown Winnipeg.

@WPGHTC are your Galaxy Nexus just stock or rooted? If roooted what rom ? Besides the speedtests are your speeds like this constant with other apps while downloading? I can pull a great speedtest but to be able to keep a good speed going while dl'ing a tvshow off usenet is a rariety.

I am 100% stock. Non rooted. Using Yakju 4.0.2. (100% Google, not Samsung controlled)
I hate roms. I have yet to find a rom that is stable enough for me.

My speeds have been very consistant. On my nexus s 3-5 mbps. Galaxy s ii was about 4-6 mbps. The galaxy nexus gets 5-10 mbps.

I love the fact that my downloads and uploads have been so consistent. I use drop box like crazy and my phone tears apart my home connection for upload speed .
The only place I have issues is unicity.
For some reason I only get 2-5 mbps there.

Tried a speed test this morning in East Kildonan - 4.5 down, 1.1 up. My phone maxes out at 7mbps, so that's a pretty impressive speed for what I need. It is certainly more consistent in terms of speed than a month ago.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the LTE promise for the end of 2012?

Long-term Evolutionary is great, but doesn't make a difference to non LTE hardware. I think MTS has just opened up the taps a little...

That's what I was getting at - perhaps allowing for more bandwidth to towers? I'm not sure how that works...

HSPA+ has a theoretical download speed of 88mbps and an upload of 22mbps. Like all internet service they just throttle it.

MTS uses a single carrier with a max bandwidth of 21Mbps down and I think 5.76Mbps up. Most phones don't support 21Mbps down. MTS must of done something because during peak times I was getting 0.5Mbps at best. Now I get 2-3 consistently. I am getting the same off peak speed as before so it seems more like they tweaked the system, at least here in Thompson.
