Porting out at the end of contract clarification

    Hi,

I’ve read many of the threads regarding porting out here on HoFo, but, I still had a couple of questions.

According to the Telus My Account page, my contract ends on Feb 24, 2012.

I want to port out in a way that minimizes the cost to me.

I understand that I need to port out after Feb 24, to avoid the $100 cancellation fee. Also, Telus charges to the date of cancellation.

So if I port out on Feb 25, I will only be charged for one additional day. There wont be any additional charges…is this correct?

And I do not need to inform Telus in advance that I plan to port out on Feb 25…is this correct?

Is there anything else that I need to do?

    Thanks everyone!

They're going to charge you right up until your next bill cycle date. For example, if your contract is up on the 24th and your billing date is the 1st, you're going to still have to pay for service from the 25th to the 1st even if you cancel on the 25th. You always pay a month in advance for your core-services, so it should already be paid anyway; the only additional bill you might get is for overages.

As for the cancellation fee, as long as you wait until the 25th to port out, you should be fine.

    Hi DennyCrane,

Thanks for your response, and for the clarification.

From my E-Bill, I see that my Bill Date is the 27th of each month (last one was Jan 27, 2012).

So, would it be best for me to port out on Feb 25, or Feb 26? That way I can minimize my charges?

I notice that Feb 25/26 happens on land on a Saturday and Sunday. Will there be any problems if I port out on the weekend? Does it transfer and take effect the same day?

    Thanks!

You shouldn't have any issues porting during a weekend.

Odd. I have a similar situation, where my contract with Rogers expires on Feb 24/12. Its Telus that I'm looking into porting over my number.

I would do the port at least 2 days before your billing cycle. I remember I once ported a day before my billing cycle and the port was complete that day but I guess it wasn't recognized and it said I cancelled the next day so I had to pay an extra month of services.

    Hi KRZR101,

    Thanks for the tip!

I guess I wont mess around, and I'll port out right on Feb 25th, and hopefully that wont happen to me.

    Thanks!
