I’m looking for some opinion on these two phones. I see a lot of positive reviews on the Samsung Galaxy S 4G and I know it was considered to be a high end phone when it came out a year ago. However, the spec sheet for the T-Mobile MyTouch is almost the same as the Galaxy even though the MyTouch is considered a mid-level phone. The Galaxy got a 8.5 review on PhoneArena and the MyTouch only 6.5. I wonder how much difference is due to the MyTouch being released a year after the Galaxy and expectations changing.
Right now I can buy the MyTouch from T-Mobile new for $280. They also have the Galaxy S 4G refurbished for $300. ($350 – Free $50 card)
I'm looking for an 4G android touchscreen phone with GPS, WiFi tethering, and a decent camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S 4G has fast 21mb/s data where as the My Touch is only 14.4. I have a 5 week old GS4g with the original box, Tmobile receipt, screen protector and sd card. It has the latest Gingerbread 2.3.6 KJ6 update. I don't like Android and I going to try Windows Phone. I will let the phone go for $225 including shipping. It has about $75.00 worth of apps you can have. The phone is still under warranty. Check my feedback. PM me if interested.
Whether you experience the actual difference between 14.4mbps vs 21mbps depends on the area. Over here in downtown SF, my friend's HTC G2 which supports 14.4mbps showed slightly faster speeds on Speedtest app than my HTC G2x which supports 21mbps.
Moral of the story: I'd say don't worry about the difference in the modems. Get the phone that suits your needs better in other areas like battery life, screen size, display quality, etc.

You do realize paid apps are tied to Google accounts? That means once he resets his phone, if he doesn't have your e-mail/password, he won't have access to your paid apps.
4G coverage is very limited in my area so I'm not that concerned about download speeds. I'm more interested in the web browsing experience. Most of the MyTouch reviews I've read say that the websites with flash are sluggish and sometimes the phone will lag a bit before opening apps. That is my concern with the MyTouch. I've played around with one at the T-Mobile store but it was just a demo phone without internet access so I couldn't try out the web.
