Phone won't get a signal where we live

    Hi,

I have a Tracfone LG600g with an AT&T SIM that has always worked well for me. I bought my boyfriend an LG420G that came with a T-Mobile SIM and won't get any sort of signal around our house, even though the coverage chart says it should be fine. Tracfone's legendary customer service is no help at all. I found a tutorial on line for getting them to send a new SIM, and even how to use a different zip code to get an AT&T SIM. If I get an AT&T SIM for him should that fix the problem? And if I do that using a different zip code will it still work in my zip code? My zip code is 98367 and I believe that's GSM5AT which is both T-Mobile and AT&T. Can I do this and still keep the minutes I have on the phone?
If getting a new SIM card isn't the answer, how do I choose a phone for him that will work? I will probably need to replace my trusty LG600g soon anyway, so any advice on choosing a phone that will work would be greatly appreciated!

Thank-you for any help you can give!

    Alison

    Try a different zip code.

You can't get a new sim online anymore. The process ends at a dead link and/or there is a message to call CS for assistance. So you will have to call. The best CS is 305-715-6500. They understand the technology better and can force the system to send you what you need instead of the automatic wrong things.

The next time you need a phone, you should check the package in the store to see which sim it has. If you order online, you will have to trick some settings in order to get the AT&T phone page.

When you change sims, nothing happens to the minutes. The CSR just ports your phone number to the other carrier, but this is usually not a big deal.

You can actually utilize three different zip codes: One to get the AT&T phone page, one for shipping, and one for activation. The activation zip is supposed to be where the phone will be used the most.

I think you will be fine once you get an AT&T sim.

Thanks for your post, Lisme. I was trying to follow jmart instructions for getting a new (AT&T) SIM, but if I do manage to get one, it'll probably be wrong! I didn't get a dead link, I actually proceeded through the whole process and even got a case number, but nowhere did it ask for the ZIP where I intended to use the phone, they will probably send me another TMobile. I am going to try the phone number you suggested-wish me luck.
