Best Buy vs VZ going to switch to Verizon for some Razr Maxx's and disturbing info

When I talked to Verizon, two reps both told me that I need to go to a Verizon store and not get the phones through BB. Because they said I will be signing up with a separate contract through BB and one through them, and if I had to change my plan within the first 6 months on any phone, I would get charged the full price for the phone. Is that true/ They said BB works like Amazon, same thing.

Best buy has the $50 per phone gift cards that I can get for paying the same price. That's $150 back in my pocket, and I also have $60 in rewards points already that I could put towards the purchase of the new phones. I rather go there, but if this is a issue, I rather not! Please let me know.

Also one other question, if I have an older verizon 3G phone, can I activate that off of contract so I don't have to get a contract on that one line?

The plan is to get two RAZR Maxx's with the Buy one get one free and double data. Also maybe the 3rd line with the old flip or a new one.

Those reps are full of crap if BB works better for you price wise go for it BB works different than online retailers like Amazon let's talk, etc just don't bother corp stores for any assistance with your purchase they won't like you.

As far as I am aware, Best Buy does not have a separate contract. The last time I added 3 lines for my kids, it was done at Best Buy. Three months later I added data plans to their lines and switched phones on two of the lines to smartphones from feature phones. Never got hit with an ETF.

Well people on these forums have said that re BB. I thinks BB would be best source of info so you get whole story; just have your checkmark question list handy so you're sure.

I couldn't find anything in BB's T&C that states they charge their own ETF if any changes are made to your account.

I've worked for Best Buy Mobile in the past and now work for a company that works with Best Buy. Best Buy doesn't sign you up for a separate contract, the same thing happens at Best Buy Mobile that would happen at Verizon. The only difference is that you get cheaper prices, instant rebates, non-commission sales people, and the chance to get Best Buy's protection plan. Best Buy does not work like Let's Talk or Amazon if you buy the phone in-store, it works like Verizon stores. Plus, that $50 giftcard is a good deal right now.

I am not trying to trash the Verizon stores, but the rep who you talked to may have given you false information to get you to buy the phone from him so he gets a commission or he was just misinformed. I've worked at an AT&T Corporate store and Best Buy Mobile was a big competitor in the mall. While we offered mail-in rebates, Best Buy Mobile always offered them cheaper with instant rebates. Sometimes reps can get greedy and tell a little white lie to get you to stay with them.

There are many companies who do this, and you have to stay on your rate plan or above to not get hit with the subsidy fee. Whether bb does it or not I'm not sure, but its entirely possible.

Thanks for the info man. I think you convinced me to go to BB to get this done instead. Hopefully they can sign me up for all the same plans that I want without any issues like the unlimtied text/mobile to mobile any provider since we are in Texas and can get that and if they honor the buy one get one free too.

They should be able to, and if they can't you can always just leave and go to the Verizon store as a last resort. Best Buy usually will match prices from brick and mortar stores. You might even want to bring a print out of the Verizon offer.

I don't think they will match online prices. I think it's in store offers only. Also, the Verizon store closest to the BB store must have it in stock. This was how it was when I worked for BBY Mobile at least. It may have changed.
v Speed Test with my Motorola Droid in AL. Droid Does (and so Does Verizon).

Speed Test with my Motorola Droid in Birmingham, AL. Droid Does (and so Does Verizon).^

Speed Test with DSL internet with AT&T(Bellsouth). Horrible.

They aren't necessarily lying there are alot of indirect agents that have a 180-210 charge back period. Again like I said alot do... not all. Check with best buy and ask if they have a charge back contract.

Hi Russ: Target is also a good alternative to Best Buy as long as they aren't too crowded.

Target Mobile locations will give you a gift card for your old phone or popular electronic (not all phones/electronics are eligible so check with them first) which you can instantly apply during checkout.

Target doesn't apply a separate contract either.

Unless you do it online, in which case Target's website just redirects you to Wirefly or let's talk.
Also Target Mobile is now staffed by outside reps, which can be good or bad depending on your views of TGT.

I personally buy my phones at Costco.. they have a 90 day return policy on any phone no questions asked .. NO restock fees like Verizon has.. think it's now $35 .. right now they don't carry the Razr Maxx only the Razr... most likely will get them after a while...the manager and reps at our local Costco are really pretty darn good.. very knowledgeable and treat us right..not saying all Costco's are like this .. I'll stick with Costco

I don't really like buying in Best Buy.. too pushy and hard sell..like vultures... they are always bothering you and never let up.. pretty sure they only give a 14 day return on phones like Verizon does

speaking of ill-informed or fibbing... have been having trouble with my Droid 3-- a whited out screen that's not fixable.. called Verizon.. they sent a replacement -refurbished phone overnite Fedex...sounded good... the 'certified like new' replacement couldn't pick up 3G.. was on the phone with Verizon tech better part of half hour or more ... he tries to sell me a Razr Maxx instead of getting a replacement for the D3 but after I asked him if it was Global.. he looks it up and says that it was..that all 4G LTE phones are Global..his words not mine... I was pretty sure it wasn't ---I need a Global phone.. he sends another 'Certified like new replacement' for the replacement that is now finally working properly

I call Verizon again yesterday.. asked and double-checked about the Razr Maxx if it's global.. sales rep says it was.. something is not right here... I again check on its Specs on the Verizon site.. Not Global ready... ill-informed or fibbing... I would say the former..

BTW rumor has it that all LTE phones will be global ready in the very near future
