Sprint to Offer “Upgrade Now" promo

    http://www.sprintfeed.com/2012/02/sp...uyout-program/

This could be a good deal for those that may not be in an LTE market this year. It appears the offer runs from 2/12/12 – 4/14/12.

So the fee might make sense for some of those who are in the 12 to 20 month range and don't have the patience to wait.

It would have made more sense if they had LTE phones available.. for those who want an LTE phone but are in a contract.. they should offer this again when LTE is released and when the new iPhone comes out

It's an option for the majority of Sprint subs who will not be in an LTE market at least this year.

My thoughts exactly...kinda pointless to buy a phone without lte, 1xa, and 800smr support.

I think I will just wait until 9/1/12 for my upgrade and at that time get an LTE phone

When is your market getting LTE? I have no idea when mine is and if I wanted/needed it I'd buy a phone or MiFi via Verizon right now. To be honest I'm not counting on Sprint LTE coverage until sometime next year or basically 1.5 - 2 yrs from now. As of 2010 my metro area is #23 in population.

It would be nice to see more of a market launch timeline of all these upgrades.

I just don't see big numbers in that.. I would be paying 199 for a galaxy plus another 125 just to extend my contract till 2/10/2014? Yes Sprint should be done rolling out LTE but what if my city gets turned on in say Jan 13 ... I would be pi@@@@!
The idea isn't bad but it should be done aro und big release phones ... Like evo2 or iPhone or to get customers onto LTE that are stuck in a contract.

I am not sure, I will have to ask a customer rep next time I talk to them. I am sure they will tell me the truth.

But regardless, it doesn't matter when my market is getting LTE. Not a smart move on someones part to buy old tech. Kinda like buying a PC that only has drivers for WinXp. The ability to move out a bit of old phones and lock people into contracts then make them buy another phone in a year when they find out LTE is in their area. Dirty dirty...but smart move Sprint.

From a consumer point of view (Sprint coverage market dependent):
In a year? as far as has been reported, there isn't going to be that many Sprint LTE launches this year. So a year from now it could be a different story. For many this year it's like buying a PC with W7 drivers knowing W7 will not be released for another year (or more) when not only more but better capable/enabled devices will be available guaranteed.

This revolves around what market a subscriber is in, the larger the better or better yet one Sprint has announced. If Sprint launches it's brand new LTE network at a faster pace it will be awesome, but that would be a difficult bet. Is Sprint going to build out their LTE network as fast as Verizon? if not many will be waiting well beyond 12 months.

Good points guys I guess i didn't look at it that way. I thought it was sprint trying to lock people in so they can't jump. I just think they could have done a little more.
On the LTE note, if the don't get it out fairly quickly people will see the product, which can be good or bad.. if the speeds are vw or better gonna be troubling..
My expectations are better building penetration, fast speeds. If not, they certainly shouldn't raise prices.

I'm assuming/hoping Sprint will not raise data prices. I could get an upgrade and I'm debating about it since the reality is it could be some time before Sprint LTE hits my market. I was fortunate that Clear/Sprint 4G Portland, OR. was launched Dec. 2008 making the EVO purchase an easy decision. I have no idea when Sprint LTE will launch here, as far as any markets nationwide all we know is what's been reported. I'm just looking at it from a realistic point of view.

I am in a strange position as far as markets. Ny is close but south. Boston is closer but east
In between is new haven, Hartford south of me and worcester to the east.. not top 10 markets however all connected by a major highway.. they rolled Wimax literally feet from me to the south and put up a small area in downtown due to license expiring if they didn't in downtown.. funny thing is they stopped when all the chit started with Wimax vs LTE and what to do with clear.
My point is its kinda hard to guess how they will deploy.. in what order
I want to upgrade the wires phone (hero) but she will be stuck for 2 years..
So I am begging her to hold on at least until June because then we will know what Sprint is doing phone wise.
On the other side, a 25% discount at vw who has my area blanketed with LTE is in the back of my head
