what does this verizon sim card in BB Bold 9650 for? confused.
I have a used Verizon Blackberry Bold 9650 phone. It has a SIM card slot and a Verizon SIM card in it. This is a world phone edition i think? it supports both CDMA and GSM so I assume this slot is for GSM SIM card if you want to use a GSM service from other carrier. But what is this Verizon SIM card for? Verizon does not have GSM service to my knowledge.
I know in Asia some CDMA carriers use CSIM for CDMA phones. but i don't think this is the case here.
Can anyone tell me what is this Verizon SIM card for? THX.

The SIM in a Verizon world phone is really a Vodafone SIM (who owns 45% of Verizon Wireless). It is intended for use outside of North America. It allows you to roam on international GSM providers keeping your Verizon number, while draining your bank account at a rapid rate. Verizon will unlock global phones without charge if you are a customer in good standing. This unlock will allow you to use much less expensive local SIM cards, albeit with a number from that country.
The SIM is not used if you are using CDMA service, either in the U.S. or internationally.
As an aside, Verizon 4G phones use SIMs for both LTE and CDMA, but that is a different story, and does not apply to your 9650. The SIM in 4G phones will not provide service on GSM systems.
