    HTC Amaze and Wifi Calling

I am looking to get the HTC Amaze. The one issue I have is with wifi calling. According to T-Mobile website the Amaze does not have Wifi calling. I find that strange as the other HTC phones all do, and this is the flagship?

My second question is around Wifi calling and how that works. At home we have poor to non-existent signal. I want to be able to both call out and receive via Wifi. I want to be able to turn off the regular cell calling, and only have it use Wifi, so the phone does not bother with a signal that is likely to get dropped.

    Thanks

There could be an update in the future that adds wifi calling if it doesn't have it now. Not sure on that though.

When you turn on wifi calling, it turns off your standard signal so no worries about it picking up on your call. The phone will tell you it's in wifi calling mode.

Yes, you can do that. People frequently turn off the regular radio when traveling overseas so they don't get roaming charges and use only wifi calling.

As for the Amaze, I hear that an update is supposed to arrive with that. Don't know why there's a delay.

I did go to the HTC site, and under the Amaze for T-Mobile they show WiFi calling and describe how it works. Which for me I can turn off the cell radio and just live with Wifi.

I am curious as to why T-Mobile does not show Amaze as WiFi calling phone.

The Amaze was not released with wifi calling. In mid December there was a report on tmonews.com that said that some people had gotten a manual update with wifi calling and it included a screen shot:

    http://www.tmonews.com/2011/12/htc-a...wi-fi-calling/

I don't see any more updates after that which leads me to believe that the update to everyone was not sent out. If you find any more info, please post it.

It may not come with wifi calling the minute you turn it on but a quick update (it will check rather quick the first time you turn it on or manually check) and it will download the newest update with wifi calling. I have the amaze and the wifi calling works great.

You MUST MUST MUST use the sim card that the phone comes with. Required. Otherwise it wont work. (You will still get the update, it just wont work)

First lets be more accurate. The Sensation is the flagship and top selling phone for TMO and has been and will be until there version of the HTC Hero comes out shortly. The Amaze is a great phone. But its not been a great seller as they thought it would be. They were hopeful it would rescue them after the great but problem plaqued LG G2x there planned flaghship embarrased them. By the way, I have both and love the G2x. The Sensation has been much better then they had predicted. It was only planned as TMO answer to the THunderbolt and others at the time. And yes the Amaze has WIFI with easy update. Great phone too. In some ways better and some worse.

    LOL!
Wi-fi calling is never bundle with original SIM card, as long as you have an active account SIM card, it will work with Wi-fi calling.

WRONG! The amaze uses some new wifi calling standard and the sim card included with the amaze is REQUIRED to be used. This is some new standard. Otherwise you will get an error message and NO wifi calling.

It is the older SIM cards that won't work with the Amaze's Wi-Fi calling app. As long as you are using a rev TM9177 SIM card, you will be able to use Wi-Fi calling in the Amaze.

That would involve rooting your phone and loading a non stock rom on the amaze, Not what the op was even referring to or asking. The stock one as told above, needs the new sim card. Chances are if you got an amaze, your a new customer (your fine, getting a new sim anyway) or upgrading your phone, most likely 2 years since your last upgrade and you will need to use the new sim card on the stock rom for wifi calling. Only Non-Stock roms have wifi calling with older sims.
