Yes, I did get the Amaze. So far everything about the phone (except battery life) is fantastic.
WiFi calling does work perfectly. It did not work with my old SIM card (from a Shadow, must be 4 years old). I also did an immediate software update.
I should note that the cell reception in this is much better than my old Shadow, which is another bonus as in my area (Valley Forge, PA) both the hills and tight cell zoning is a historic problem for all carriers.
For those considering the Amaze, I would highly recommend it. I also found the HTC Sync (for Outlook contacts, and calendar) to work well. I had to download that from the HTC site under EVO, not Amaze.
Yes the Sensation has some lesser features on paper then the Amaze. WE already agreed on that. The point your missing is like the htc HD7 compared to the older HD2. The Sensation is still considered the better phone. Its benchmark tests are faster and the battery while far from great (Only the new Verizon Droid Razr Max is decent) its far superior then the Amaze. For the masses wanting to Root and put a cleaner ROM on phone you see on XDA the support for the Amaze is not good. Support for Sensation is lets say SENSATIONAL!
Reason being its while short in 3 areas compared to the Amaze, still a much more desired phone for what can me done to it. Plus HTC and there lame S-OFF (they promised they would not do this anymore but lied in case of the Amaze) Its just not the desirable phone or it would have better sales.
Is it a bad phone. Hell no! The Amaze is a great phone too! For most normal users its just fine and they probably would know no differance.
Yes I also agree the GS2 should be the go to phone for TMO. However they just are not doing it. Maybe too much sting from there push of the great LG G2x only to have manufacture problems resulting in mass returns. I dont know. But I wish they would stop with the MY TOUCH insanity. LOL
That new HTC is going to be steller! It will make the Amaze, Sensation and all else seem like boat anchors. Can not wait to root one soon!
Keep in mind that the sensation 4g won't roam onto the new at&t 3g network once opened up. The amaze will fully. (Both 850 and 1900mhz HSPA+ support, unlike the sensation) that was enough for me to consider the amaze 4g instead of the sensation. That and nfc.

With T-Mobile harshly capping the amount of roaming one can do on AT&T, it's not really a factor that some thought it might be when they heard about the UMTS roaming agreement.

Exactly! Who the heck wants to be on ATT's lame network. Here in Seattle ATT is half the speed on data vs. Tmo 4g.
One thing from the conversations I had with Corp TMO was that ATT is having to give space and money as in tons for the defunct merger. However again, I am lucky as on West coast (even more so Voicestreams old den of sin of Washington and PNW) We are not using ATT towers, They are using TMO as we have more TMO towers then ATT. Thats why for the Prepaid folks in the PNW they get exact coverage for Data and Voice at a better price then my contract. But go to midwest or eastcoast on a prepaid TMO using mostly ATT towers and like the TMO manger said to my daughter. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!
And yes, I am with you, Root em all, Rom em all, Kill the bloat and any phone is much improved. LOL
With the Sensation your tweaked at 1.5 procc speed and my fav AHRD Revalution ROM running full ICS and blazing fast!
Now if the Bionic can get the ICS bugs out for the G2x then I cant wait to play with my G2x again sitting in the drawer.
The whole point of this roaming agreement is to get 3g coverage OUTSIDE the t-mobile 3g/4g network. NOT add more coverage inside already covered 3g or 4g.
This most likely won't hlep you inside the city of seattle. But all the rural areas outside, yes. There are a lot of areas where the 3g or 4g coverage ends just outside the town borders, leaving everybody else on edge or even gprs.
I have a very strong feeling that even ATT 3g is faster than t-mobile edge and gprs.
This also adds more voice coverage in areas with NO at&t roaming now. which is most of the country. T-mobile tries very hard to avoid at&t roaming and just about always picks a local provider if they can.

True in most areas. Luckily for us here in Seattle. Even the outskirts all over the PNW are all TMO as Most were Voicestream first (TMO old parent company) and even with expanded towers since 2001 its still been TMO doing the expansion in PNW as its there home area. As you know everything they test is Seattle and surrounding as they reside in Bellevue. I have had 3g before anyone else, then 4g before anyonne else.
ATT is weak in coverage if you took away TMO towers in PNW. So again does not effect us like those in midwest and east coast where if your on PREPAID TMO you wont even have voice as they limit roaming contacts with TMO and ATT and Prepaid. On Contract you still roam on both with voice. Data not so much.
However there is mixed messeges about now what will happen with TMO and ATT agreements. Some you talk to say its TMOS win and some say no. Glad I am in an area where it does not matter. I think really you will now see TMO and Sprint get together on LTE. Its already being talked about. However here in PNW Sprint is very weak data on thers so called 4g...
Oh and Edge is okay. When I do get Edge I am still getting 2g speeds in most cases here in Seattle outskirts. So maybe again we are just lucky. I can tell you I talked my brother into TMO in Northern Calif last year and he is about to shoot me over it. He has the WORST coverage of all the carriers there. So I am not insane enough to think TMO is great data everywhere. Heck he even has terrible Voice in SF Bay area with TMO.

I have a spare prepaid line. The roaming in the midwest is identical for prepaid as postpaid. Only difference is prepaid has no data. (there are workarounds that involve opera mini) but MMS, sms, and voice work perfectly fine roaming. For the most part, there isn't much difference between roaming and on network for voice w/prepaid and postpaid.
I wouldn't be entirely shocked if they allow prepaid users on the new 3g roaming agreement for voice, mms and text. (no data) They can show a bigger map of coverage versus what they have now. (there isn't any extra fee for roaming on prepaid plans)

Yes that is the issue. You see here in the west coast PREpaid TMO has 4g data 96% of the time as your almost always on TMO towers. You unlucky people in the midwest and east of Colorado have that lame TMO and ATT share tower aggrement that on prepaid that only includes voice and no data (that is what TMO rep told us and seems it true as you have no data)
So for us Prepaid is as good or for price better then contract. But we have prepaid 4g data. I would be pissed if I lived in your area and they claim 4g prepaid data but you dont really get it. That is bad business on TMO part.
I don't know anything about a TMO and ATT share tower agreement at all. In fact, in the part of the midwest i lived in, it was very rare for me to roam on at&t at all. It was always different providers. (The only at&t towers i can roam on are ex-commnet towers that where sold to at&t. The peoria store told me the commnet agreement is about over, and to expect to lose that coverage eventually)
Prepaid has never had data roaming sadly. Same with webconnect plans (even postpaid! That annoys me. i wireless is partly owned by t-mobile but NO ROAMING FOR YOU! Blah..)

That really sucks and should be illiegal as TMO advertises 4g Prepaid on there national website. I mean my son and daughter have the Walmart 5g data plan for 30 bucks and it rocks here! You and others in midwest and other places not here should have same or similar. To not have any data on Prepaid or roaming is flat out wrong of TMO!
The only way I knew about the agreements as there is a huge thread about it on XDA and when we were talking with TMO corp store manager about another issue. We brought up the Walmart prepaid data plan and he was ver knowlegable about the agreements. He said TMO and ATT have full share agreement for DATa, Voice and Roaming for contract customers. However for PREPAID The aggrement is only for voice and text. He said Data and Roaming are excluded in aggrement to use other carriers towers. But again, in PNW its almost all TMO towers so my kids 4g is as good as my contract 4g all over here. But the poor saps with ATT prepaid must not be able to use TMO 4g or roaming as its mainly TMO towers. So that is just bogus. Sorry for ya man.
The vast majority of the areas i go to don't have at&t at all. (No 2g or 3g) Until i travel south to west-central illinois, i get into at&t land, but t-mobile has been very aggressive launching 4g there so no loss. You would be shocked how very little coverage at&t has in parts of the midwest. I call it GSM Forgotonia.,
But, keep in mind there is a difference between prepaid and No Annual contract (aka monthly 4g). If your on the monthly 4g no annual contract, you get data roaming. Hard to explain.

GSM sucks worse south of I-64.
Trust me, I know from painful experience and many years of trying to use AT&T down here. At least T-Mobile is finally expanding 4G down here. Hopefully they light up Chester soon, with 3G on 1900 to boot. Why not, it's not as if many people have T-Mobile here, most have Big Red.
