My mesmerize like most everyone elses has been acting like a fool especially since Gingerbread. I have been watching and trying to figure out what is causing this and I think i have found what is going on. When mine locks up and does the screen shot routine, if I open the settings/applications/running applications, it will show I am pretty much completely out of ram! If I close out all the programs that you can close out (can't force stop base programs) it really clears up my phone and it runs much smoother and faster.
The biggest culprits of excessive ram use on my phone are Words with Friends auto sync, Facebook, Slacker and Pandora. It gets really old having to go in and dump these things and I have tried task killers but they will NOT kill the apps I listed no matter what my settings were, but for the way it makes my phone act it is worth it.
Give it a try next time your mez acts like Microsoft had something to do with it!
