I'm down to a choice of 2 phones to use on the AT&T network with ST. In fact, I've ordered both and will return one or sell it on eBay.

    1. Samsung Infuse. Used but in excellent condition. Already arrived in the mail. Was about $200 including a year warrant from CowBoom.

    2. Samsung Galaxy Nexus. New. Was $382 after taxes & shipping from Google. Should arrive Monday or so.

I probably use average data and phone, with below average texting amounts.

    What's it gonna be?

If you're going to be transferring a lot of data, forget ST altogether. You can tether and keep to the limits (100MB/day, 2GB/month seems to be safe in most cases), but if you're going to exceed that they'll warn you once, then close your account. (There are a few threads on this.)

Also, sitting on a weather radar display for an hour may be more data than they'll allow, tethering or not. If you need a lot of data transfer use Wifi whenever possible. If you really need more than ST's limits your best bet is to find a carrier that allows the amount you need.

In your price range you have loads of good choices. The Google Nexus is probably your best bet at this time.

To get an idea of what you want, go into an AT&T store and handle the phones. No one knows what's going to appeal to you but you yourself. I want a large screen - you may want a small phone, which means a smaller screen. No one can tell you what's important to you.

Okay what do you make of the excerpt below describing the data limits for the Samsung Proclaim quoted directly from the ST website(?)...

"This phone will be under the Straight Talk label and will require the $45 Unlimited Plan. It will run on the CDMA Verizon network, and will have a retail price of $179. It will be somewhat unlimited data, as it will allow up to 4GB of data usage per month. Source: Tracfone Area Representative"

IOW, it's not unlimited data, it's somewhat limited web browsing.

You'll find that if you ask 5 Straight Talk representatives the same question, you'll get 10 different answers.

"Somewhat unlimited data" is my new favorite oxymoron!

Finally found a ST Proclaim at a walmart 35 mi away from my home town (Walmart/ST may have hit a home run with the Proclaim considering there are 5 other walmarts within 5, 10, 15 and 20 mi!) As I put the Proclaim through its paces, one thing I may reconsider is the fact that this particular ST phone doesnt have a sim (I must've missed that in my research). Though the Proclaim has impressed me so far, I may return it for a ST BYOP/ATT Sim plan where at least if something goes wrong with the phone, I should be able to pull the sim and be up in running in a backup ATT phone within minutes...someone please correct me if I'm wrong(?)

If I decide on the ST BYOP plan can someone list the top 3 ATT & TMO phones which would be on par with the Proclaim (size & processor)? Its gonna be tough... The Proclaim's screens sharp and the layout of the power button is perfect in the way it hits the fingers of the left hand and/or the thumb of the right hand. Also like how the screen is free of any buttons (the menu, home, refresh and search are integrated (as touch sensors) behind the screen). Decisions, decisions...

Do you happen to know if this app would allow MMS to work properly as well?

CDMA phones (Verizon and Sprint) don't have SIMs in the same way that TDMA (GSM is TDMA) phones (TMo and AT&T) do.

I must've missed that in my research
That's not usually listed, since the network the phone runs on tells you that.

Can't help you with an equivalent TDMA phone.

I just picked up an atrix 4g for 120 bucks and its honestly a solid device...if you root it and install a custom rom. I have a full working jelly bean on mine already. The camera is as good as a galaxy nexus. And the fingerprint scanner is a cool feature. If you don't root or do custom roms than probably go with the atrix 2 because it has no development community anyway and slightly better specs.

I currently have an iPhone 3g, that has definitely lived it's useful life. I want to get a new phone. My first choice was an iPhone 4, but it's a bit out of my price range. And I have been playing with a few friends Android phones. I'd like to stick right around $150. I was looking at the Captivate or the Infuse, but am open to other suggestions. I went into the local AT&T store to play with some phones but was badgered with 20 questions. So besides phone recommendations, where is the best place to look at phones?

Thanks in advance for your help!
