I need to get a new line of service and a Droid 4, and I was told by a Verizon rep on the phone that I should get it on the phone with Verizon, not in the store, because an unlimited data plan will be applying to this line (it's a long story, but it was written up on my account by the rep). I would love to get the cheaper price for the Droid 4 that Amazon is giving ($99 vs $199), but, of course, I can't do anything that might lose my unlimited data plan.
Does anyone have any feedback about how I might get the phone cheaper through Amazon without losing the unlimited data plan? I suppose that I am dreaming, and that I would risk losing it. Any brilliant ideas?
I saw someone mention Verizon offered $100 off a new LTE phone, so I could ask about that, but probably that wouldn't apply.
The other question is: aside from the above question, which is probably the deciding factor, is there any downside to getting the phone through Amazon?
It sure would be nice to save $100, but not at the risk of losing unlimited data.
When you place the order through Amazon just make sure they give you the option to keep your unlimited data. You have to give your account information so they can verify you are eligible for an upgrade so they should also show that your account has unlimited data. I know someone who recently upgraded through Amazon and they had no trouble keeping their unlimited data plan. If you only see an option for tiered data then just don't complete the order.

The only possible problem is if you have "buyers remorse" and want to return and cancel your contract renewal. Then you would not only have Verizon's rules, but also Amazon's rules. Make sure you know, fully, what are Amazon's current rules.

I hate to tell you, but you will have to give up your unlimited data plan.
The $99 deal at Amazon seems to be only for new accounts. And with a new account, you have to go with Verizon's current data plan offerings.
Yeah WaltA is right, I didn't actually look at Amazon to see that the $99 price was only for new contracts, they do pricing like that pretty often at Amazon. I just looked though and it is $150 on Amazon if you are already a VZW customer and are upgrading so it's up to you if it's worth saving $50 or just buying it directly from VZW.
It's actually a new line of service, but on my current account, which makes the unlimited data plan transfer (not automatically, but because of a complicated situation that is documented in my account notes). But now people have mentioned that Amazon has some sort of ETF if you even so much as change your account (if indeed this is correct), so that doesn't sound good, if it's right. There's always one catch or another to consider!
