Question about Porting Rogers # to another Rogers Contract

    Hey guys,

I am currently on a month to month basis with rogers and I would like to assume another Rogers contract.

What is the best way to go about this?

I would like to keep my number at all costs.

    Please advise

    Thanks in Advance

Are you going to take over a Rogers contract or just commit to a contract on the same line (i.e. by taking a discounted phone)?

If the latter, simply commit to the contract and your number will not be impacted.

If the former, take over the contract and it will become another line on your account. You'll then have two lines. Then, simply call into customer service (or do it on the same call) and advise that you want to port the number from line 1 over to line 2. This will automatically cancel line 1. This should be something that they can easily do for you.

If the reps have trouble doing this, you can simply port your number over to a prepaid service, then port it back to Rogers on your remaining line. But I doubt you'll have to do that.

Well, ircu isn't being entirely honest with you here. You certainly can port between lines, it is a case not not being allowed. WorldIRC had it done fairly recently, but it takes persistence, a good case and lots of luck.

That will work just make sure you don't use rogers prepaid to do it.

WorldIRC did not port between two lines. WorldIRC performed a number swap, very different procedure. The prior would NOT have accomplished what my original intentions were in the other thread.

OP, just port your month to month number to Fido Prepaid, then port it back in to overlay your new line on Rogers.

Can I port to Fido and then port back to Rogers the same day?

Also the person I am taking the rogers contract over from has a 647 # associated with the line.... Does that affect the process at all?

Sorry, meant swap, which was the original question.

JF doesn't want or need to do a number swap. Cmon guys, let's keep this simple. A number swap is only required when both lines need to be preserved. But I think what JF is saying is that he's just got a sweet Rogers plan from someone and wants to use his number with it. He doesn't need his month-to-month line anymore. It'll be closed when the port happens, and that's fine.

I am sure that the reps *could* port his number to his new line, as this is what happened when someone got my line, but they're obviously unwilling to do so or don't know how it can be done. So JF, port to Fido prepaid, then port back. Porting is nearly instant but will probably take some hours to be completed just because of the way porting requests are handled.

While this is unrelated to the thread, I have to say, Ircu, that it really bothers me when you intentionally mislead people. You know as well as I do that number swaps can be done and are as easy as pie for Rogers to do. I did it, WorldIrc did it, many others have done it. Yes, it's technically against Rogers policy (why should Rogers help customers get too good a deal?) but many reps are willing to do it. Either you're lying through your teeth or you don't follow HoFo. Whenever you say "it can't be done," people will jump in and correct you.

With that said, that's not what JF wants to do anyway.

You may want to read what WorldIRC posted before you claim that he did it. http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...0#post14720590
