GSM buzz, is it the iPhone, AT&T or GSM

I recently got my bud's iPhone 4 to replace my iPhone 3G[S]. I find that when I have the iPhone connected using the synch cable to my computer I get lots of GSM noise. Previously, I had a jailbroken 3G[S] with T-Mobile. I almost never got any GSM noise with the 3G[S] and T-Mobile.

What I'm wondering regarding the GSM noise is whether the iPhone 4 just emits more RFI, or whether the AT&T SIM installed is "busier" and that's why all the GSM noise. I never had as much GSM noise and as often as I hear it through my computer speakers as I do with the iPhone 4 on AT&T (I'm using AT&T because the baseband on my unit is unlockable so I got a GoPhone account.)

Are you GSM or UMTS? There shouldn't be any buzz if you're on UMTS, as that's CDMA-based.

I have 3G disabled. Also, the RFI that I hear is not the "dutt-dd-dutt-dd-dutt-dd" that I'm used to, but rather steady single note buzzing sound.

If 3G is disabled it's just your phone communicating. Try putting it down in a slightly different spot. If I have my phone on EDGE and it's near the volume controls for my computer I get buzzing. If I move it a few inches off to the side it usually stops.

Or turn 3G on if you have 3G coverage. Then it's quiet all the time.

don'tnt know if it works for the steady note buzzing but I know for the dutt-dd-dutt-dd that what I did is take tin foil and folder it into a couple of layer slightlyly bigger then the Iphone to make a mat that I lay the phone on when its on my desk. When laying on the tin foil mat idoesn'tnt make that noise.
