Switching From a Smartphone to a Regular Phone During Contract
I currently have a regular phone with no data plan requirement. My wife and I are on the same plan and we're eligible to get new phones. My wife wants the new Razr so does her sister but she's on her own plan and they want to take advantage of the Razr BOGO that's going on right now. I want to do the Razr BOGO on our plan. My question is after a month, can I switch back to my old regular phone (EnV Touch), give my Razr to my wife's sister and not have any consequences such as having to have a data plan even though I don't have the Razr anymore?
Yes you can. You can switch back to the feature phone and drop the data plan. You don't even have to wait for a month. As soon as you activate it, you can switch back and the phone will be free to be added to your wife's sister's plan.
Remember that you'll still have the $350 ETF if you terminate your contract. The ETF coincides with the type of phone you had subsidized, not the type of phone you had active.

I'm confused now. Are you saying if I deactivate the Razr and switch back to my old Env Touch after renewing my two year contract I will have to pay the $350 EFT?

No. He is saying that if you deactivate the Razr, switch back to the Env Touch, IF you decide to cancel your line later such that it triggers the ETF, you will be under the $350 ETF as it applies to smartphones, and not the $175 ETF as it applies to featurephones. The ETF is based on the type of phone you signed the contract with/got subsidized for, not the type of phone that is active on the line when you become subject to the ETF.

Your wife's sister has to add a data plan to her account. So the Razr sill produces the data revenue for Verizon, just on your wife's sisters account instead of yours.
