Also, some carriers (I found Bell, so far) are deploying LTE towers with 20MHz channel bandwidth, the maximum possible. (We have a filter LTE Max to show such towers.)

Do you find, all other things equal, 20MHz offer faster performance than 10MHz or 5MHz?

As of this morning, the Loxcel cell tower map has Bell's 139 LTE Max towers. I hope to have Rogers BRS data in 2 - 3 weeks, and will load it on the map, as soon thereafter.

Looking ahead a few years, there's something called LTE Advanced, which aggregates multiple channels for ever faster speed. Amazing, the channels don't even have to be contiguous. Gigabit performance is possible, if you're standing really close to the tower.
That's probably too simplicity. As you know Howard posted a screen capture from the Galaxy S4 in his review that showed a download speed of 97 Mbps on Band 7 (20 MHz bandwidth). I was the one that actually performed that test while over at his house. The theoretical maximum is 100 Mbps, and so this is close to full speed. The tower we used was visible from the window at which we stood to make this test, but that tower is 1.5 km from Howard's house. Clearly then distance alone is not a factor in speed, though certainly interference, obstructions, and other users on the channel would.

Well, at full signal, I get approx 45mb/s down. Sitting at my office, around -90dB, i get about 10mb/s down. I'd say distance and objects most definitely affect speeds.

Can anyone with the latest MG1 firmware rerun the speed test? I can't seem seem to get over 55 Mbps anymore from the same spot spot where I used to get close to 100 Mbps.

    Hi!

Here are some speed tests with my Galaxy Note 3 on Rogers LTE network.
I got that speed inside Laurier shopping center in Sainte-Foy, Québec.

    Crappy Rogers LTE rates

Disappointing results considering the tests were taken at various times of day on a couple of different towers while stopping Medicine Hat, AB over last couple of months. It is not as if these are highly used and overloaded towers. All readings were direct line of sight. Interestingly, the best readings were about 1 mile away, and the worst were within 25 to 200 feet outdoors. Something crappy about this. Galaxy S4. Disregard the signal strength info at top of screenshot as it has nothing to do with results.

Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated. Is there any way to measure the signal strength or whatever?

    Hi!

Here are some new speed tests with my Galaxy Note 3 on Rogers LTE network.
I got that speed inside a restaurant in Lévis, Québec.

I used a friend's iPhone 5 tethered to my laptop today and got somewhat dissapointing results considering Telus and Bell get 45+ here on a weaker signal. Both cell sites are located on the same rooftop about 600m away.

This is the fastest to date that I've experienced. This was in St Michael's Cathedral in downtown Toronto.

I'm getting approx 4 Mbps down, 0.75Mbps up on my Rogers Q10 (SQN100-3). I'm in London ontario and I see my status as 4G (5 bars signal).

Is this a local issue? (I tried on a Blackberry Z10 as well, same results) I can't understand how many of you are see 40Mbps+ download speeds. Is that only in Toronto?

I spoke to rogers tech support and they told to me to go to cbc.ca and google.ca and if the pages load fast all is fine (she also told me to factory reset my phone, remove all apps, etc which made no difference). I also opened another ticket but got a SMS 2 hours later saying resolved (and results are the same). I've also power cycled the phone, etc. but 2 different phones get same results.

How are you guys getting those speeds?

Anyone around the Metrotown area in Burnaby, BC notice LTE signal has gone from full bars to 1 in the last month?

This was taken at the corner of Mavis & Eglinton in Mississauga Ontario. The download speeds are the fastest I've experienced.
