I have a family plan with several iphones. No double data there.
If i get an LTE phone, can I temporarily switch that phone to each line and then go to myverizon and select the double data, and then switch it back to the iphone.
That seems like it might work for the double data, or am i missing something?

The phone has nothing to do with the plan itself... Same thing if you have unlimited data on an older line with a Droid and tiered data on a new line with a Nexus, the new line will not magically become unlimited if you moved the Droid to the 2nd line, you would just lose the unlimited data on the first line unless you swapped it with another unactivated smartphone you had lying around.

Won't work. The system would see you went to a 3G only phone and push you to 2GB.
v Speed Test with my Motorola Droid in AL. Droid Does (and so Does Verizon).

So if in a few weeks I have double data on my LTE phone, and I switch to my brothers iphone for a second, and then switch back to the LTE phone, my double data is gone for good? I doubt it!?

Depends on when the codes get pulled from the system as to how easy it is to put back on.
If the promotion is still running, at worst you'll need to call in and it's an instant switch. Because it's technically a promotion, I don't know if it'll show on your My Verizon account to re-add once the 4G device is back on there.
If the promotion isn't running, you'll still need to call into CS and they'll need to file an inactive pricing request to have the code opened back up in the system specifically for your line. You would need to do this within 60 days of the code falling off.
The promotion maybe only LTE phones, but if you went down to 3G for a time period, it is still double data on 3G. They aren't going to knock you down to 2GB just for 3G service.
IIRC, the promotion is only good as long as you have a LTE phone on the line, if you drop down to 3G and are not still in the promotion period it could very well nuke your double data. You could probably get it back with a call to customer service but don't bet on it 100%. This is the same thing where people got tricked into going from unlimited to tiered data by a combination of sneaky service reps and their own fault. Once that unlimited plan goes away it is gone for good.
As far as this promotion for ppl who are on the tiered plans. Pay the extra $20/mo for 5GB and it'll double to 10GB. That is a steal for what ATT/VZW charge normally and about as close as you can get to the "good old days" without paying $100 for the highest data plan. Although that one doubles to 24GB lol. Still, as fast as LTE speeds are, you can blow through 24GB in a day. I just downloaded about 18GB worth of media last night in a few hours on my home ISP powered by Crapcast which is the only high speed (I use that term loosely for comcast) since I moved out of a FiOS availability area. LTE is faster than my cable modem is so... yeah I would have 0 issue going over 24GB in a few hours really... Call me a data hog if you will but the LTE network can more than handle it. Bandwidth costs are going down and the cell companies are just getting greedy with this tiered crap especially Vzw when LTE is so crazy ridiculous fast that you can't even really use it to its full potential at even the max plans. 2GB is basically useless IMHO.

How accurate is that information and where is it from?

Completely and utterly wrong.
The minute the system reads the change from a 4g device to a 3g device, it will auto-swap the data package to a 3g data package.

I'd say almost 0% accurate. The Double data promo was never offered on 3G phone's and therefore there is no reason to grandfather it to users of 3G phone's. Further the DD promo is being offered so VZW can get more of it's customers on 4G phone's so allowing them to just switch back to 3G phone's and keep the DD promo would completely defeat the purpose.
