Does anyone know if it is possible to clone the Telus HSPA SIM cards; I would like to be able to use another phone as a backup at times instead of carrying a smart phone without changing the SIM all the time?

You can go online and swap your SIM card for free with Telus. Keep the serial numbers of the two cards handy and just swap it online back and forth all you want.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

This will not solve your original post of "cloning". You'll still have to login to the Telus website to swap your SIM each time. Also, if you use call forwarding, these settings are erased each time you perform a SIM swap.

This will work for me as I have no problem going online quickly and switching s/n. I just didn't want to have to pull out the sim's each time I wanted to use a different phone. Basically I just wanted a crap phone to use if going hiking or mountain biking with my son, this way I don't have to worry about damaging or loosing my Android.
Just swapping the SIM Cards in the phone is still going to be faster, and much less prone to errors than swapping SIMs online. Every time you ask TELUS to do that there is a small risk that a computer error will tie your line up for a while. Now add in the fact that unless you have a Blackberry, new phones power up faster than the TELUS site will load. your average disposable dumb phone will be powered up before you can lock your door on your way to your car.
Honestly swapping SIMs is the whole reason TELUS clients wanted HSPA! so we can use 2 phones with out calling TELUS.
SIMs are pretty durable little things. When I had my Nexus 1 I pulled the SIM to swap out a personal and work SIM almost daily for a couple years. Both the SIM card and the SIM slot were fine when it died a ugly drop related death.....
If the $10 SIM is your issue... Don't worry about. Nothing short of Scissors is going to damage your SIM.

Sure you can...as long as its on to the same number as before.
This.
Some customers will use their own CDMA phone as a loaner while their HSPA device is out for repairs. When their phone comes back, the SIM can be reactivated on their line.
