Battery life and Phone gets hot when charging

My LG Extravert has horrible battery life. I am a college student and a heavy user but even with my old phone I only charged it once a week. A charge only last about 12 hours. If it is fully charged and I go on the internet for longer than 20 minutes it drops a bar and if I am talking for longer than 30 minutes it drops a bar. Does listen to music affect battery life?

Its gotten so bad I have to carry a charger with me and a full charge only last 12 hours.I mainly charge it with my old phone (LG Accolade)'s Micro SD phone charger. When I charge it with the one that it came with it gets really hot to the point of my hand sweating or my pocket getting hot

I leave the Accolade phone charger at home and I take the Extravert's charger with me in case I need to carge it if I am at college or somewhere. The Accolade charger doesn't make my phone hot though. Should I be concerned?
