Using the computer to write SMSs

I originally posted this in the Samsung subsection. It occurred to me that it might be better in the general Android section. I hope that moderators will understand?

    Hi All,

I have just gone/come over to a Samsung Galaxy Pro (well, I got it nine months ago, but after two weeks went back to my Nokia E72 and E75). A friend of mine has just got the Samsung Galaxy W and has been extolling the voice dictation/recognition capabilities. I went to look at it last week and got shown the Galaxy S2. Due to my disability, I think that I will have trouble with the touch screen. After explaining this, the gentleman suggested trying a VR app. I then remembered having the Galaxy Pro, and dug it out.

I then got the app Vingo. It it better that I thought it would be. My track record with computer VR technology over the last fifteen years has not been great. As good as it is, it still makes too many mistakes. As I am housebound for the majority of my time, I thought that I could overcome this problem by using the computer to compose my SMSs, as I have previously done with my Nokia and Sony phones.

I have tried using MobileEdit without any success. I think that it does not particularly like my BlueSoleil dongle. Now that I am getting into the Android scene, even though I get around the screen by using the physical cursor keys on the phone's keyboard, I do not really want to go back to the Nokia. I seem to always go back.

I was wondering whether anyone could suggest a program I can run Windows Vista that would allow me to send SMSs via Bluetooth (BlueSoleil). I would prefer it if it would also allow me to transfer files via Bluetooth, but the sending of the SMSs is the essential thing.

I would consider using Samsung's PC studio, but my friend, who has been using it for years, says you cannot send multiple messages from it. I think that is stupid in this day and age.

I hope someone has a suggestion for me.

    Richard.

Here's a list of Android apps that I have looked into and tried some only. If you are looking to send text using bluetooth then I would look into the apps on the top list.

The apps on the bottom list were more useful to me. BrowserTexting was what I used from all computers, but now appends a message at the end makes it no so attractive.

WIFI / USB / BT Links
DesktopSMS - Requires JAR client thru USB or WIFI
EasySMS - Works on any Browser
    RemoteSMS - (http://www.ct-designs.de/android/remotesms/) Uses Browser
    Remote Desktop - Uses browser
Texdro - Requires Java and Browser, but on LAN

    Thru Gmail or Other Services
CrossTxT - requires Cloud account on website http://www.crosstxt.com/ (closed Beta May 2011)
DeskSMS - uses GMail account (cost $$)
mySMS - Paid service over Cloud
SMS2PC (http://www.scottstraughan.com/sms2pc/) - (cost $$$) Requires client install and works over Internet via 3G
(2 - crude) MightyText - Works on Chrome Browser with GMail Account (uses Data)
(1 - nicer) BrowserTexting SMS via browser (http://www.browsertexting.com/) - Works on any browser over Internet via 3G (Dec 1, 2011 -> Separate b/w Free and Premium. Free has limitation and appends sig at end of text)

How about PDANet? It doesn't integrate with the builtin messaging system the best, but if you are already tethering your phone to your computer it is a free addon.

Try MyPhoneExplorer. Works great for me and does more than just allow you to send texts.

I loved MyPhoneExplorer (Nokia and Samsung should employ this guy, or at least take notes). Actually I bought the SE C905 paartly so I could keep using the software. Alas though, I did not get along with it and a friend fell in love with the colour (gold), so I got the Nokia E75 instead.

I was unaware that MyPhoneExplorer worked with Androids (and Samsungs). If this is the case then I will be made up more than you could imagine. It was a real treat using it when I had the Sony K850i. The software was better than the phone, by a country mile,

@liquidzyklon: I had not thought of using the browser. I had seen reference to it on CLICK (a computer programme we have in the U.K.), but due to me not really being interested in Android [sorry], I had totally forgotten about it. As I am home more than not, and am always connected to the Net, it would make an obvious choice. Thank you for the reminder.

@primetechv2: Thank you. I did not know about that. I will take a look at tat with the others.

@TonyMUK: Thank you very much. If this was indeed your first message in five and as half years? It was well worth the wait. :-) It took me a few minutes to figure out that I had to 'make' a new COM port in BlueSoleil. Once I did this, everything went smoothly. I then phoned a friend who has been having similar trouble with his Samsung Galaxy W. Hopefully it well also sort him out as well. I love this software.

    Thank you, again.
