I'm debating on getting this. Replcacement of up to 2 phones after accidental damage for $46. So now ape will no lo get offer a $199 placement under limit warranty to accidental damage? What do you folks think?

Totally worth it. You extend your warranty and phone support for another year, AND you get up to 2 $50 replacement iPhones if you damage the first one. if you manage to break 3 iPhones, you can still get a new one, but the replacement cost starts to go up. Still cheaper than buying a new one retail, though.
I've gotten Applecare for all 3 iPhones my wife and I have ever had. Her first iPhone, a 3G, was replaced twice, first time for a silent switch that broke, would enter into silent mode by itself without physically switching. A few months later, the replacement phone had a screen issue that would cause vertical lines to show up, so we got another replacement. That was totally worth it since both replacements were past the 1 year mark but before the 2 year mark. We sold the 3G soon after the second replacement and since the replacements Apple gives out are almost like new phones, we got a pretty good selling price for it, I'd estimate at least $40 more than we would have gotten.
For her current 4, the home button is starting to stick and doesn't work every now and then. We will be exchanging it for a replacement soon since it appears to be getting worse. That phone is now about 1.5 years old by the way.
And on my 4, I don't have any problems yet, but it's only 9 months old. I still went ahead and got Applecare anyway just because of our prior experiences with my wife's iPhones.
Sorry for bringing back this old thread, but I just had a great Applecare experience that I wanted to share. It's been just under 1 year since I've had my iPhone 4 and my speakerphone isn't working anymore (end party only hears static when on speakerphone) so I checked my Applecare status to get a repair and also was going to extend my Applecare to 2 years if I hadn't already. When I checked, it said my 1 year already expired even though I purchased my phone on May 23, 2011. Apple explained to me that it was a refurb phone so the 1 year started at the original sale date (April 20, 2011), not the date I purchased. It was partially my fault for not figuring this out, but like I said, I honestly was going to extend my warranty anyway, like I did with all my iPhones in the past. The Apple rep talked with her supervisor and made an exception and let me extend my Applecare (the regular one for $69). So big ups to Apple's customer service, now I can go in and get my speakerphone fixed (or more likely just have my phone replaced)!

Applecare+ is $99 and can only be purchased within the first 30 days of owning an iPhone. That one covers cracks and water damage (though a $49 fee for a replacement for these types of damages may apply). The regular Applecare is still $69 and that can be purchased anytime before the original 1 year warranty ends, but it does not cover as much as Applecare+ I'm sure you can find more details of the differences on the apple website.
I've never bought it.. and never needed it on my two iPhones (3G and 4S)... I drop my phone a lot too... I probably should buy it but luckily have never needed it!
The replacement for an older model Iphone out of warranty is now $149. The Iphone 5 is coming out soon, and when does come out, the replacement for the Iphone 4S will be 149 as well.
Even with Apple Care Plus, you will pay $49 fee for any accidental damages during the warranty period.
Chances are, if you don't have Apple Care Plus, and you break it, you will pay $149 (after the Iphone 5 comes out) for the warranty plus the first deductible.
essentially, you're moving the risk over to Apple, and in order to really benefit, you will have to go through a second (and last one) replacement to take advantage.
The other benefit is any manufacture defect, you will be covered for two years. The additional amount for the Apple care plus is really not that worth it unless you have a history of destroying your phones OR you want to take advantage of an extra year of manufacture defect protection.
The chances are, though, most people change their phones well before the two year mark, so if you're the type, like me, to change it up every six months, don't go for it.
Other benefits are:
you're acessories are included in the protection plan.
When I bought my iPad 3 a few weeks ago I debated buying the AppleCare too, what I found out was instead of paying a hundred bucks, you can find apple care on eBay for most any idevice for 40-50 bucks. And since you can buy it anytime during the mfr warranty period we have all the time to grab one. For a hundred, for me it's not worth it since my phone is pretty cased up ...water damage is one of those things that it's worth it for IMO. But for 45 or so bucks, it's def worth it I think. Now if only they sold cheap iTunes credits to avoid paying a ridiculous amount for everything on there :/

You can purchase Apple care any time during the original warranty but Apple Care plus must be purchased within about the first 30 days.
