No they say 24 hours but call them back in an hour and see if your number was released and it will be ported.

It's been close to 24 hours for me... calling now to see what's up.
On the phone with them now, they claim that there was no pending request, despite my phone call with them yesterday. Unbelievable.![]()
They made me call VM to release my number... this is such a hassle.
Did you give them all your VM account info when you called the first time?
They asked me for my account number/Security code from Alltel to port my line to T-Mobile. It took 24 hours for me but only one phone call made the process go very easy.
I did... I finally got done my port, but it took 4 phone calls and over an hour on the phone all together.
Just wanted to say thanks and confirm that, for the most part, this sequence worked for me. The one glitch was that the codes in my kit did not work as advertised, either online or through the IVR system. I talked to a CSR, though, and they set me up over the phone w/o issues.
if I have a balance due with tmobile on the 2nd and a 10 day grace period before a service interruption can I still port the number to another service provider as long as the account is still active or does the actual phone line have to be active before tmobile releases the number for porting? and if so how long after the grace period can this be done?

Rule of thumb is if you can make/receive calls, it will go through. If you can't, it won't.
If you've googled "T-mobile will not port my number" and found this page, well, then I feel sorry for you, because you're in for a world of wasted time, annoying problems, and horrible service from one of the worst companies in the telecommunications industry. Be prepared to be lied to repeatedly on by their customer service reps, as one person after another tells you "24-48 hours" despite the fact that they have no clue how long it will take to port your number. I actually had one rep admit to me that they have no idea how long it will take, and I said "So, it could takes weeks?" and she said, "That's a possibility."
When I asked if -- since I've called 5 times now, and its been two entire weeks -- they could expedite my particular ticket, she said, "Well, if I were to do that, I'd have to expedite ALL of the tickets." Thus she is acknowledging that my case isn't an aberration, but rather is the norm!
(continued from above)
Thus, it became clear to me that Tmobile doesn't give a flying you know what about their customers, because if they did, they would assemble an engineering/technical team that was actually capable of porting numbers in the 24-48 hour time frame that they tell you. Or they would at least not be idiots about it, and would tell you that 1-2 weeks is a reasonable expectation for the porting to take place. As it is, they have figured out a very clever and very dishonest way to reel you in, string you along, and get your money along the way.
In the last few days I've filed complaints with the FCC and the Better Business Bureau, and I'm telling as many people as I know that Tmobile doesn't give a damn about their customers. Since Tmobile doesn't care about morals, and only about money, I'd imagine that it's only the possibility that'll have less cash in their wallets that would lead them to do anything differently.
Um, what ?
