Rogers Galaxy Note Works on Fido ...

It appears the Rogers Galaxy Note works out of the box on Fido as well.

Confirm/Test before buying but tried today and appeared to work fine.

Expensive device at $699 outright, but some should be discounted on Kijiji etc., soon...

I called Samsung and they said the warranty applies to the original buyer only. So keep that in mind if buying used.

I can also confirm this, I have a Galaxy Note with all the Rogers trimmings and it's working fine so far on Fido.

I can't comment on LTE availability because it's not available in the city I'm currently in. WHen I get back to another LTE town I'll find out but my guess is it might not work since Rogers makes you sign up for an LTE specific data plan.

did you need to unlock the device before using it on fido? so the lte wouldn't work for fido users?

Don't mean to be a dufus but I think the thread inherently implies that you don't need to unlock it ... it works with Fido straight out of the box. It seems many Samsung products cross pollinate. I wonder why that is....
I'm not telling you anything that you can't just google for yourself

I doubt you will be able to take advantage of the LTE if FIDO start having LTE coverage .... I read that you must register your device's IMEI in order to use LTE and you wont be able to register a Rogers IMEI on FIDO unless FIDO does something in their end

LTE would be nice, but coverage is sparse around here.

By the time it's widely available on Fido
I'm sure a new phone will be desired in any case

I seldom make voice calls any more, the Note is perfect for data uses I'm finding.

Had it and a 4s for a few days, and easily decided on the Note.
Once I used it for a day there was no going back to a 3.5" display.

hi. can anyone confirm if the timestamp on the sms is correct? because i remember I had a bell samsung galaxy s unlocked to use with fido. But for some reason, the timestamp on the received text messages was always 4 or 5 hours behind so the messages were always jumbled up. Most people with unlocked phones were experiencing this with rogers/fido. So i just want to know since the rogers galaxy note can be used outright with fido, does the sms timestamp works as well?

    Thanks!

You may need the SMS Fix app. Free from Google play. It works well.

SMS Time Fix should not be required if the device works on Rogers. Both Rogers & Fido have the same issue, so if it works on Rogers without the SMS Time Fix app it should work on Fido too.

I wonder why it is that when i send a photo to someone by text (picture messaging) they receive it as a low quality 4 second video! I email my pics now, saved 5$ on mms fee.

not sure it's true, but i am on fido using rogers Note and it shows 4G on download and upload. Could Fido be using Rogers network already?

4G is not necessarily LTE - HSDPA plus in some places is also considered 4G and may read 4G on your Note. By the by, it's a bit cheaper buying it unlocked from Amazon.com. Dollar is still good...

If the GNote is using LTE, it will display 'LTE' on the notification bar. So, you're not using LTE.

Amazon sells the international GNote I believe and there's no warranty attached. So buyer buys at own risk. But if you're going to root the phone anyways, that's pretty much a mute point as that'll void the warranty. You also need to be aware that if you plan on getting accessories, you need to get the one that is specific to the version you bought as they do differ in external as well as internal parts (ie. international has physical home button, different chipset, the back cover plate is not interchangeable between the two versions, etc). Also international version doesn't work with LTE (hence swapping the chipset in the North American version).

The North American version is the i717 and the international version is N7000. There are other versions besides these that exist. So be aware of which one you're getting.
