Experience with Tmobile "3G" Blackberry - I think CSR intentionally deceived me!
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum, although I've been reading it a lot lately - great insights here - thanks all!
I want to share my experience with everyone regarding my switch yesterday to Simple Mobile.
____
I just subscribed to service from Simple Mobile yesterday - after leaving Boost Mobile.
I activated my new Blackberry 9780 by purchasing a SIM ($7) and a 1 month "3G unlimited plan" ($50)
My data service was PAINFULLY slow - All-text webpages were taking 3 minutes to load - webpages with pictures were simply timing out - emails were arriving to my phone with a 15 minute delay .
I ran Fancy Speedtest on my Blackberry (free app) and found the best result was 128kbps. I ran the test 3 times; on time resulted in a speed of 109kbps.
I found that many users on this site report the same general throttled speeds - data services were so bad that they were pretty much useless. At least on Boost - I felt like things were moving - it wasn't the fastest in the world, but I could browse and email with ease.
I did even find, like other users here, that forcing my phone to use 2G seemed faster.
I called a customer service rep today - I was finally transferred to "Blackberry Technical Support" ---- The rep on the other end stayed on the line with me while he "reset" some things on my phone from his end. He then asked me to check the speeds on my phone - Surprise! The phone worked blasingly fast while I was on the phone with him.
Then....Not 2 minutes after I hung up with him, the phone is back to unusable slow speeds and 15 minute email delays!
I swear, they are deceiving people! I think he unthrottled my phone and gave me real 3G speed while I was on the phone with the CSR, then rethrottled it right afterword!
I think this is a calculated scam, I want my $57 back. And my Boost Shrinkage back - I asked Boost CSRs on Facebook if I can have that back - I was just gone for 1 day - they flat-out said no.
I just want to expose this scheme. I might end up cancelling the service, eating the loss and going back to Boost. What a waste of time and money?
Blackberry 3g speeds have been reported to be around 250k, way better then the 120 k or less of non Blackberry 3g plans. Go straight to the $60 plan if necessary for more speed. Blackberry users don't use as much data as Android/iphone users anyway in general and Simple Mobile is sloppy with their definition of "3g".
On their cheaper plans, wifi, forcing to 2g, Opera and a big grain of salt helps.
There's another thread in this forum about the same problem with Android. The 3G plans are throttled down to 119kbit/sec regardless of BlackBerry or Android. 119k is hardly a decent speed for a normal 3G phone. It is pretty much a scam to make you move up to the 4G plan which is unthrottled.
