I spoke with various Verizon prepaid csrs about their byod smartphones. Apparently, in the near future (one said as early as mid March), they will be going to allow 4G/LTE smartphones on their prepaid offerings. It may be possible that their unlimited 4G offerings will stay the same as their unlimited 3g data ($30 for truly unlimited) making it a better value potentially then their postpaid offerings.
Whether this will affect their mvnos (especially Page Plus and Straight Talk) around the same time is unknown.
Verizon prepaid does cost more but unlimited 4G/LTE data on a Verizon device might make a difference for some.
We'll see how this plays out and when...

The also indicate that both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s will soon join the iPad2 on VZW's prepaid line-up.
2012 continues to deliver plenty of prepaid goods and service options to choose from. Is it finally safe to say that VZW wants to compete and win in the new prepaid arena.

CON-Tracts??? We don't need no stinking contracts!
Vz is def more serious about prepaid than they used to be. I think they will always want to be a postpaid carrier first but with many on prepaid now it brings in extra revenue. Yeah I think quite a few 4g phones will be available on prepaid sometime this year or by next year.
I'd be shocked if 4G was allowed - I'm sure they would allow 4G handsets as that is all they will be selling now but they will either have no 4G access or unlimited will be gone. Or both. Unlimited 3G seems like an easy value-add as more people leave the 3G network behind. But who knows?
Get a 4G tablet with the 10gb plan for $80 and the $50 unlimited plan with a nice flip phone and you have a whole lot of 4G data with unlimited voice and text for $130 retail minus any discounts. I'm not sure if the prepaid broadband requires auto pay. Or put it together with the Airvoice $35 deal and get 5gb for $60 = $95.
I agree with Pabster they won't extend unlimited to the 4G phones or I will be surprised if they do. Not that I've never been surprised before.

Yeah, the $80/10Gb 4G LTE prepaid plan is great. For those that don't need a monthly unlimited plan VZW also offers Daily Talk options and a paygo option as well.
Well I did notice that Verizon just changed their website and included a new prepaid section, which would indicate a more serious move to prepaid. What is missing is the unlimited smartphone data for $30, its still available but not advertised. The only way I found it was by adding a prepaid smartphone to my cart and it then comes up there as a feature.

Also, do you think that Verizion will keep the unlimited data on 3G prepaid, or eventually cap it like their postpaid?
I am at this time completely happy with a prepaid smartphone with the unlimited data, but am considering switching to a 4G contract phone to take advantage of the double data deal, in fear of loosing the unlimited data, however I really don't want to do that at this time.
A friend was asking about prepaid options on Verizon so I was skimming this section of the forum. Apparently Verizon prepaid is just as expensive as their postpaid plans, if not worse. It looks like the only real data option for smartphones is $30 a month??? That's it? I'd go with Page Plus any day over these plans.
Why exactly would anyone need 10GB on a tablet? or a phone for that matter? $80 is more than what I pay for my home internet per month.
Verizon prepaid IS the most expensive. BUT, they don't have $350 ETFs, two year slave chains, and they do offer 3G unlimited smartphone data unlike postpaid. Plus with discount codes, you can bring it down. They also don't charge you all the BS taxes that (microwave fee? WTF) that most postpaid carriers throw in.
Page Plus is a great option but if you are using Verizon prepaid phones that come that way to begin with, they are impossible to legally put on PPC. Verizon's best values are its 3g unlimited data, unlimited mobile to mobile, nights/weekend minutes, unlimited $1.99 a day talk plan, unlimited $50 plan for feature phones and unlimited messaging for $20 a month.
Not perfect but a lot better then before the 2009. Verizon is taking prepaid a bit more seriously then before. They still have a ways to go before their prices match their competitors though...
Why would I want to put a prepaid Verizon phone on Page Plus when there are plenty of great non-prepaid Verizon phones? I was using PP with a Droid that I found on CL. So to me, not being able to use prepaid Verizon phones doesn't seem like a big deal. $50/month for feature phone is good compared to Verizon's regular rates I guess, but when the standard on any other prepaid is $40/month, not really such a great deal.
I don't know, for an average user who wants talk, text and moderate data access, Verizon prepaid really has very little to offer. The only time I can see it being worth it is if you lived in an area where Verizon coverage is the only practical option, and in that case why not just go with their standard plans? Sure you're going to be locked in, but your phone and plan options all seem much better.
