These circumstances have me wondering what's been going on, too. I've never seen a discussion here about mfr histories but it would be useful. As far as I can see, Samsung has been dreadful in a lot of phones, particularly at Verizon. I wonder if these factors haven't played major roles; as they are related to Android:

    1. Profit from growth as smartphones have expanded. This didn't exist a few years ago. Just read an article that said 73% of Samsungs profit came from smartphones. This gives them a lot more incentive than a few years ago.

    2. Profit from a brand identity. This grew out of the first S which did imo copy the iphone but I don't think a sexy rectangle is patentable. It worked for iphone and Samsung was smart to copy that.

    3. Profit from extended production runs. Having a brand gives them this so this was smart. Seems no one else in Android has done this.

Many mfrs first efforts have been horrible; then they never get off the ground but both Motorola and HTC have squandered their early success

It always boggles my mind to think that a large for profit corporation could allow itself to be sucked in by a copycat mentality.

Android has a lot going for it. But it will never out-Apple Apple. Gotta play up your own unique strengths and accentuate your positive differences if you want to lead the pack. 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.' Apple must feel very flattered.

These larger screen phones are one arena where Android has turned the tables on Apple. It's still an open question how big, but there is consensus that the iPhone5 will have a meaningfully larger display.

HTC & Moto are both building handsets with plastic bag batteries and no SD cards, just like iPhones.

All my Motos have sdcards as will my next Moto...the HD, so I think there will continue to be devices produced with sdcards and this is less of an issue than you are making it seem by your statements.

Yeah, I'm inclined -- oh so tentatively -- to agree that consumer demand is having an effect -- in the short-term, at least -- where SD cards are concerned. Although, I believe it will continue to be a vulnerable feature and that vigilance should be maintained.

The HD prototype lacked SD, but, thankfully, the production model added it back. If the next HTC tier 1 slate or slider (the phablet doesn't count) has SD support, my hope will be reborn.

This SGSIII has both SD and a removable battery: that's certainly encouraging. Even the WP8 now is touting full SD support. Do you suppose the iPhone ... nah!

I tend to agree that the D4 may be overall "the best keyboarded (cellphone) in the U.S." But it's still not all that good. I expect The Surface Pro may prove to be better as a keyboarded mobile device, albeit not Android.

    A) Reviews around the 'net.
    B) A dead phone is a useless phone, and scores 0 while it's dead, so the RAZR MAXX has a huge advantage against it's competition.
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

And the iPhone is consistently the top selling phone in the US why? Clearly, everyone is getting these ridiculous things.

Forget Verizon getting it, now it's too late. Will Virgin Mobile get it by September (when my contract runs out)? I like the idea of paying $50 a month.
One burning question that will remain with him until his dying days....."Was my victory really worth the price I had to pay?"

You could very well be right, but I still think it's possible. How old was the Epic when vzw finally got the Stratosphere?
