Camera concept is interesting but damn that's an ugly phone. Interested to see dinning talk about this, if he was involved.
Hopefully we see windows phones with this tech later in the year.

Superfine 38MP photos are around 10mb
does it have front facing camera?
Can't find confirmation either way.

led and xenon, user replaceable battery, stereo mic, "optical" zoom...finally everything we asked for?
Also, it looks like it will be able to cope with loud music/sounds.
Captured audio is also significantly improved ('Rich Recording'), even when compared to the output from the digital mikes in the N86 and N8 - here on the 808 PureView with 'Dolby Headphones', effectively recording Dolby Surround Sound through the 808's stereo microphones - and able to reproduce the same via any connected headphones. Impressively,*High Amplitude Audio Capture (HAAC) means that very loud sounds can be intelligently handled, right up to 140dB (way louder than a military jet, way louder than a rock concert!), without distortion.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.
I hope this will be available in NA. If not I will have to pick one up on my trip to Europe later this year.
Doubt it'll come to NA. They're going with a pure Lumia strategy in the US.
What a beast of a camera!![]()
From some specs apparently it does have a front facing camera, same quality as N8.
Low points: crappy screen resolution, single core, low ram, ugly design, small battery
high points: everything related to the camera including a flash that is twice as powerful as the n8's. Also the GPU and tierce processor that this has for handling the camera functions should be really stout negating the need for high ram and dual or more cores. The camera can be activated by pressing the camera button even when locked and it will take under 1second to be ready to grab a picture.
To me the negatives are really small compared to the pros. The GPU must be a beast! I think the new GPU has twice the memory the old one had so 512 OS 512 for the GPU.
For someone that doesn’t care about gaming (us symbian guys certainly don’t have many games to pick from anyways), multi core and HD screens are really not a big concern I would say.
The camera is great. The rest is a let down. Seriously? Why not match this up with a Harmattan device instead of Symbian.
What a joke. Nokia you are the imaging king. Please make a flagship soon.
Nokia N950
As much as I like Harmattan I am ok with this running Symbian. I have many Symbian games/apps that I can immediately install on this device. I still maintain that Symbian is nowhere near as dead as some would believe. Harmattan on the other head was DOA. I love my N9 and plan to continue using it for years as something I like to tinker with. I would have rather seen a N950 like device for Harmattan rather than a 808 equivalent.
If this phone came out with a quad core, 1gb ram and HD screen AND this rediculous camera, you can bet the price would be near double. Who would buy that?
Seriously, symbian doesn't need a tone of RAM, with the N8 we cna already have a bunch of apps open all running fine and speed wise it is still very usable. This n808 has twice the clock speed and twice the ram.
More cores is great for gaming and can help for recource heavy tasks like HD video taking and such but
-symbian has no games
-n808 off loads all the tuff video stuff to it's high end GPU.
Apps make the phone and what apps are really programed to take advantge of a bunch of cores?
Clearly this phone isn't for everyone, or even most hehe. I think it caters perfectly to the crowd it is amaing for. My only really big dissapointement is the small battery, 2000mah or more would have been great.
There are some cool accessories for the 808 Pureview:
This case comes with a lens cover.
