H20 changes minute plans, lowers rates but shortens expiration dates

H20 continues to move against paygo and move toward monthly plans. They have just revised their paygo minute plans . Their $10 card now has a 30 day expiry with 5 cents minute/text rates, 10 c for mms and 33c a meg for data. Their old rate was 14 cents a minute, 5 cents a text and no data or mms. They did have longer expiry times though of 90 days or so.

Their $20 card is the same as the $10 card but has a 60 day expiry. Considering you can stack two $10 30 day cards, I see no big diff.

These rates are worse then Air Voice's $10 plan which has rollover. Whether H20 does or not remains to be tested.

I like the rates but hate the fact that the expiries are getting tighter and tighter. If they have rollover, I would say it's a tolerable tradeoff but if it's another use it or lose it monthly thing, forget it.
On a good note, they do allow one to keep the free calling to 53 select nations on landlines with no extra charge.

H2o always had roll over on MINUTE plans as long as you refill before your minutes expire. I kinda like these new plans - for example, you can add SIX $10 refills on the same day and it automatically extends your expiration date by 180 days and preserves existing minutes. Also, $100 for 2000 minutes/text with ONE year expiration is a good addition too.

Rollover is good. It means that it is still paygo, though with shorter monthly cycles. It'd be $120 , not 100 for a year but it would be a better rate then Att which is 10 cents a minute ,20 cents a text and $10 a meg .

But do we know for sure if the new plans have rollover or not? There's nothing about it on the site. I asked on H2O's chat and the rep said "no rollover" and then a little later in the same chat session he said "it rolls over". I pointed out that he initially said no rollover and asked him to confirm and then the chat session disconnected.

I just added 2 $10 pins today and my expiration was extended by 60 days and I see total $s when I check balance. Without roll over MINUTE PLANS will look like MONTHLY plans and why would they keep MONTHLY and MINUTE plans as 2 different options?

This change makes H2O wireless more expensive than gophone for me - well for my wife's number. It used to be $3.33 per month, but will go to $10/month. With occasional coupon codes from callingmart, gophone becomes $7.50/month..

I will be soon porting to at&t gophone... gophone may not be the cheapest, but I think it would be one of the safest place to keep the mobile number..

I tried H2o chat again and go a much more coherent sounding rep. She said that the new 5˘/minute plans do not rollover. She also said that the old 14˘/minute plans with rollover and 90 day expiration are no longer available, not even for existing users of those plans.

I also called Airvoice and they confirmed that their new 4˘/minute plans do rollover and that the old plans with 90 expiration are still available.

With rollover, cheaper minutes and text and quick US based CS Airvoice seems to be the winner so far in these new $10 AT&T MVNO plans. I wonder if Jolt, Red Pocket and Pure talk will offer similar plans?

Another update: H20 wireless has a 90 day $30 minute plan (same as stacking 3x $10 pins) and a $100 one year 2000 minute plan.

H20 still sucks for cs though. And lack of rollover? If Air Voice comes out with a year card like the $10 plan, H20 paygo is dead. And frankly, if it doesn't rollover, it ISN'T paygo in my book.

What a ripoff. More monthly, bimonthly, quarterly plans. Not true paygo. Lame H20. Lame.

Ouch! For those of you who are pleased with these increased prices, I am happy for you. This is a mini-disaster for me. My $40 per year minute plan just jumped to $100 per year. Next week I will be leaving H2O for AirVoice Paygo, Jolt, or PagePlus.

So we have no confirm 100 percent of rollover or not. Correct?

I don't know about the rollovers, fonezfonz. The only thing I can confirm about H2O is that their rates, plans, and website are in a constant state of flux. That's no surprise to you.

I've been with H2O for about 13 months. It seems like every couple of months they dink around with the minute plans on their website, then change them back after a day or two! Other than that little annoyance, I've been happy with them.

As I posted yesterday, I added 2 $10 pins yesterday and my expiration was extended by 60 days and I see total $s when I check balance (old balance + 2 $10). If the minutes DO NOT roll over, they should be taking away some $s from your balance at the end of 30 days (of course assuming you have not used up all minutes from $10 pin), which I doubt will happen. Either we can wait for H2O to answer this question, which was already posted, in their Facebook page or one of us come back in 30 days and post our experience. As fonezfonz mentioned, no roll over on paygo doesn't make sense and looks like we have some confusion on new T&C on MINUTE plans.

I don't see why they can't have rollover, Air Voice is a lesser known and they have it. H20 is a moving target when it comes to policies.

Well so much for my son's emergency phone at $3.33 a month. I have been with H20 since November 2010.

I bought 2 $10 pins at Callingmart last week and the rates are still the same on their page for the minute plan so I was not aware of the changes.

While the lower minute/text charges are good and now they offer paygo-data, $10 a month is way too much.

I added the 2 $10 pins yesterday and $20 was added to my existing $10.38 balance and 60 days to the expiration date.

So that means if I want to stay within the same budget I have to get him another phone for Page Plus.

His ATT Nokia flip phone was only $6.

It would have been nice to have some warning, I wouldn't have bought any more pins or added them earlier.

page plus would have been cheaper all along anyway. $10 for 4 months so not you lowered your cost to $2.50 a month!

go to ebay and buy a cheap off contract verizon phone. you could probably get him 1 for $10-$15 like an old flip phone. you can even ask a friend or family member for their old verizon phone!
