    It's so annoying that there's no standard for this!

    So my wife is using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, and I was wondering if it supported LTE in Canada. Technically it would because of the bands but since there are two subvariants (Snapdragon and Mediatek) I wanted to know for sure. So I switched SIMs and her phone still showed 4G.

    That's a very generic term and even when she's on a 3G network it shows 4G. After a speed test (I think it was either right at 50 Mbps down or like 49 Mbps) I knew she was on LTE but the phone itself didn't actually indicate she was on LTE.
