    Prorating add-ons for limited use

I didn't realize that they had the option/ability to add an option for only part of a month. I called for someone that will be in the US for 10 days to have CCF and US LD added to the account for the month. The rep kindly added them and prorated them so the charge will only be for 10 days of usage. This means for less than $13 he will have 2500 CCF minutes and unlimited US (and Canada) LD for the 10 days he will be in the US and will be able to forward to his US number instead of the $30+ it would have cost to add it for the whole month.

    Thanks Fido.

I believe the CCF minutes would be prorated as well for the 10 days. You wouldn't just have the full 2500.

Although I'm not overly familiar with Fido's add-ons, what you've said is a standard billing practice.

Could be. I'd told him not to bother prorating the CCF, just the LD, since the CCF was only $3 anyway. But, even if he did prorate it, 1/3 of 2500 should still be plenty.

Did some testing to make sure it works. On his iPhone, when I use the Call Forwarding setting in Settings, then the calls forward fine (US number). But if I use the dialer codes to enable forwarding, whether for all calls, all conditional or individual conditional, an error is returned. The status codes seem to work and the cancel codes seem to work, but actually setting it doesn't work. I wanted to leave him instructions to use an address book entry to enable and disable as needed, but I guess he can use setting. Just thought it was weird the codes don't work.

I suggest you to ask Social Media if the LD Option ($30.00 Unlimited Canada/USA) will cover the forwarding calls as well...

I asked the rep I spoke to and also exchanged emails with Fido about it after I submitted a commendation for the rep for helping out. Both seemed to indicate that the LD would cover forwarding LD as well. Mine does. Their only concern was to ensure I understood it doesn't affect roaming charges, which is fine since he will be using a US SIM and forwarding to that number.

Just when I was getting all positive about Fido....

Called today to verify that the options had been removed on the expected date. The woman I spoke to was insistent that the type of prorating I was asking about was impossible. She said that the only portion that would be prorated would be to account for the days at the beginning of his billing cycle that fell before the options were added and that it then had to charge to for entire remainder of the month, not just for the days used. This is exactly the opposite of what the first rep not just suggested but confirmed when I explicitly asked. He went as far as to explain that it was normal to prorate for only the portion used but not as usual to enter the termination date ahead of time, but that he would do it for me this time since he was familiar with the system.

I was too rushed to discuss it further, but just as the first rep got a commendation from me, this one will be getting a complaint.

The first rep would be right. You can definitely add the option for only a portion of your bill cycle and only be charged for the days its on the account. There used to be a minimum of one month that the add-on had to be on the account, but when I checked last week, that requirement was no longer listed.

Confusing for whom? Seems like customers would understand only paying for what they use and it's very basic math so most reps shouldn't be confused. Anyone confused by this would have been as (or more) confused by the old rules. Can't always operate a business catering to the lowest common denominator of intellect.

Makes sense. Nice move by Fido. This is the type of small change they should ensure reps are up to date on. Definitely helps create goodwill, which they need. My rep yesterday was perhaps in need of some retraining.
