True. They usually like to see it as your current equipment to bring up the warranty info. They can phone or email their contact at telus to have a copy of the warranty validation emailed to them via the serial number if putting your current Telus sim in the phone is not an option. It's a bit of extra work for them but I have had it done like that myself when I needed an air card fixed that would no longer recognise any sim cards so was impossible to insert a sim card to show it on my equipment screen.
