Personally for me I have a clear TPU case that I'm more than satisfied especially since it cost me less than $1.50 on amazon.com.

Since I paid $300 used price for mine, I have a griffin survivor case and will probably get the new aquatek one also.
It's not that I'm rough with my smartphones, more that I never know if or what i'll drop my phone on and I'm paranoid...

Use Best Skins Ever or Zagg and put another case, now that's ultimate protection.
It would be better to protect it because it doesn't lose its value as much as a used one. If in case you want to sell them, they would be in perfect/near perfect condition and you will attract more buyers.

I have used the bumper for the last 2 years on my iPhone 4 and 4s. I'm on my 3rd one which is rather frustrating as they are not cheap.
