Well, since you are coming from a BlackBerry, do you want a physical keyboard? Because if you do, that rules out the iPhone right away.

Even little things like 4g download speeds, flash and hotspot capabilities on a prepaid sim are things I took for granted until I actually got these features on an Android. Now I can't live without them. But I also would not recommend Android to my mom. She is not very tech savvy and doesn't want to think about her phone. So iPhone it is for her. The other nice thing about an iPhone is that it holds its value well. You can always find someone to take it off your hands at a premium price even when it is two generations old.
Very true, IP3gs are still going for a good price on eBay and CL. And IPs are good tech like phones for those who don't want to get under the hood or are not interested in changes that make the phone drasticly different.
As stated befor, each phone has its place depending on what the user wants or needs.

I'm using iphone4, and I think iphone would make people isolated from other devices. I feel stange if I change my handset. So I would go with iphone.

    Android

Reasons I did not like my iPhone trial
    1.itunes
    2. No USB Mass storage device on any computer available
    3. no SD card capability
    4. Was not Google Centric Contact list on Android has all FB entires and pics for all contacts as well as Google and Twitter contacts
    5. Need a charger nearby or a bulky case with additional battery piggyback\
    6. Phone cannot be completely restored without any wifi or carrier signal from onboard backup file
    7. From factor getting long in the tooth as well as OS

Love Android based on independent and free open OS based on Linux
    Multi sourcing applications.
20Gb free cloud storage via Google.
    HUGE screen thin phone available.
Multiple launchers able to read data on widgets without opening an actual application.
1MB RAM allows true multi tasking
    2mb front camera

Now I am all about the Samsung devices as they are the easiest to root and lots of development. No experience with HTC or Motorola.

Have not used my Itouch4 since I got the SGS II and now the Note as well.

Apple is great for many applications like credit card swiping for businesses and accessories. But Apple remains in control of everything including deciding which apps people can get and where and how they get them, Android has no exclusive market and one can install ANY application from anyone anywhere.

I can use the International version with $10 unlimited Data as well on ATT MediaNet since they do not have the device IMEI in their system. Also can be used with straight talk for $45 unlimited everything. I upgrade with ATT, buy the iPhones and sell them.

5.5" screen is phenomenal on a phone. Some will say it "looks" dorky or strange but my phone is not a fashion accessory. ts a tool, a toy, a media device and lastly a communication device. People stop laughing when they see the screen and the real estate for taking notes and watching movies, reading books.....no need for a tablet.

another thing in Android's favor is the availability of a QWERTY. And that's not just an old person's thing like I was thinking it was. My daughter had her phone stolen the other night and when we went in to pick out a replacement she said she missed having a nice QWERTY so we went with the LG Mytouch Q and she's very happy.

It's a matter of style and taste, too, as well as function.

There is an element of truth to the iP=quality equation. But I'd match Android with 'Freedom' more than "quantity".

    Different strokes for different folks.

As long as the two -- er, make that three, WP7 is another option -- platforms retain their diverse character we'll have choices.

That's why I am so thoroughly disgusted by two recent trends in Android: the slide toward iPhone-style non-removable batteries and the loss of the SD slot.

Android is for the people, open-source, freedom of choice -- "TC_Mits"* phones. Apple is smooth, polished, sophisticated -- it just works.

Then when Android tries to copy Apple, it's Android that must wind up losing because -- this is so obvious -- Apple will always be better at being Apple than anybody else.

And the one thing that is even more disgusting than the two trends themselves is when Android dolts defend them by pointing out how well they work -- for Apple!
    Well, duh...

I'll stick my 2 cents in here.

First, if I were to get an Android phone, I would only get a "Nexus" and at that it would be the latest, The Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Listen to podcasts and read reviews from the folks over at The Verge and how the ultimately end up complaining about the 3rd party skins Android phone makers put on their devices. Since Android 4.0 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich) 3rd party skins add nothing and only get in the way and make the UI worse. Even Samsung has taken to update their phones to 4.x with their Sense UI which makes it look like Android 2.x. Also these skins tend to be the reason Android updates aren't rolled out to old phones.
I've heard (not confirmed) that HTC never if rarely updates phones with new versions of Android.

So bottom line, if you want Android OS updates, Nexus phones are really your best bet with the pure Google Android experience. They get updated directly by Google and first when they are ready to release. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a great phone. It may no longer be the BEST one out, but it is the best Nexus.

    Now Android vs iPhone.
It comes down to a pretty simple question. Do you like to tinker with your phone, or just have it work? This doesn't mean you can't just use an Android phone without "tinkering" but I find that most people choose Android for the plethora of hardware options (moot point if you are like me and would only get a Nexus,) the sheer flexibility of an open platform and ecosystem, and that they like to heavily customize the phone (tinker with it.) I know a lot of people get "bored" with their phones quickly and like to change up the widgets and home screen or flash other ROMs to the phone. iPhone has no (well little) ability to customize the home screen whereas Android is all about that. I actually hope Apple wises up and allows some sort of home screen or widget system for iOS 6.

If you get an iPhone and immediately decide you need to Jailbreak it to do what you need. Then I would say don't bother and just go with Android. For the last year I have found no reason to jailbreak since everything I jailbroke for is now baked in to the OS (except free tethering.)

By way of comparison I choose to stay with the iPhone primarily because it does everything I want very well without any necessity to screw around with or tinker with it. I use GMail for my mail, calendar, and contacts. I also use my work Exchange server for email, calendar, and contacts. It all works very well and there are plenty of great apps that solve most of what the phone is missing.

Admittedly I have so much invested in iPhone apps it would take a lot to get me to switch. If I were coming from BB for the first time I think it would be harder choice.

    Your response is confusing.
Also, my experience is that Safari is better than the stock Android web browser. If that weren't the case, I'd strongly consider switching.
Also the many 3rd party web browsers on iOS are just as good (most built on iOS Safari webkit so they're the same engine.) There are many great alternatives and some that aren't based on webkit.

Chrome Beta on Android may be a different story. But it's new and I haven't used it.

The response was confusing, I suspect, because line 2 was about my last post above (just before your very long one). But, if so -- and I'm not 100% sure -- I also suspect that it is the truth more than the rage (which is overstated) that some find unsettling. Or, maybe I'm a paranoid starting at shadows ...

What I meant was that browsers on iOS devices quit for no apparent reason, the browser closes itself and the device returns to the home screen constantly, it's impossible to get anything done using the browser because of this. When it does it it doesn't prompt you to send information, that's called rage quitting which is a term that's borrowed from hardcore gamers describing a butthurt person pressing the power button when they realize how much they suck at a game. Granted, aside from the rage quits Safari is good.
