Which Telus Android smartphone has the best RF?

The service in our town is absolutely atrocious lately, my Galaxy S Fascinate is no better than my wifes iPhone, the Blackberries seem to have better RF but I want to stick with a droid. My friend has an older Motorola Defy, I think, and it has much stronger signal than my phone being able to call and text when I can't even see a signal. On the signal strength when my phone shows 1 or 2 asu, his will show as much as 7 or 8.
Are there any new phones that have good signal strength like this?

Samsung and HTC devices are almost always very poor RF wise. Motorola really is your only choice if you must have an Android device with good RF. Most Android phones are great "toys", great for using the internet, playing music, etc., but are poor as phones because of the lackluster antenna in most of them.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note and the RF is much better than my old S2X but not as good as my Motorola Milestone...

The milestone had to be one of the best phones for RF that telus ever released. I've seen so many people who switched from it complaining that their coverage sucks now, especially if they went with the S2X.

Comparing my recently bought (from a friend) Motorola Defy and my HTC Desire HD there is no comparison.

At a minimum the Defy is 20 dBms better. I lose my signal 25% of the time in my basement with the HTC but have -77, -83 on the Defy.

Because of this I will not likely buy another HTC, although I like their product.

Hopefully with Google acquiring Motorola there will be a pure Android phone from Motorola in the near future.

On a side note, the Motorola Razr is not quite as good as the Defy as there is around 7-9 dBms difference in the Defy's favour, but still way better the my HTC.

The DEFY benefits from an antenna that's placed at the top of the phone and not the bottom, which is not to say that the HTC Desire HD is good because it's not. The DEFY's Motorola overlay also has different values and measurements for signal reception than standard android. Often times it's 3-5 bars, and 1-2 is rarely displayed even when the signal dips down into -100dBm. It just stays at -97dBm.

The Galaxy Note is a huge device, you can't cover the entire antenna portion with your hand on it which is why the reception could be seen as "better"

The Galaxy S 2 has good HSPA reception as well but it's more prone to hand-signal attenuation than the Note.. but is the note really as practical as the Galaxy S II? No.

Coverage will expand to 100 million LTE pops for the first half of 2013, with the second half of 2013 expanding to 200 million POPs covered. Release 10 LTE (2×10, 2×20) will be better performing than all other competitors.

I have a Moto Defy and it never drops calls in my [rural] house unlike my previous Nokia and Samsung phone.

    This causes me some concern!

I am hopeful that the Nokia 900 gets good reception as I might be leaning that way! I'm 4 months away from an upgrade but that has never stopped me from picking up a phone that I want.

I love the reception from the Defy but keep going back to the Desire HD for the screen and speed. Both phones are rooted running ICS.

I would kill for another Android like the Milestone. THAT made me thing HSPA had great reception compared to evdo in my area... but it was the phone, not the network
Then I got a HTC, took it back right away.
Trying to use a Galaxy Nexus.... loved it BUT going back to iphone already because it doesn't have QUITE as good as reception it seems.

Bring forth a Motorola! Our company doesn't have any Android phones ONLY because none of them has decent reception. We're locked into blackberries and iphones for that reason only.

I wouldn't say "none of them has decent reception". As already stated in this thread that the best phone for reception is the Motorola defy. My friend has the Motorola Razr and although it doesn't get the same reception strength as the Defy, it is close. Within 7-9 dBms.

I am hopeful that between Motorola and Google they release something sweet in the upcoming months. I need a new phone. Hopefully it will include but not limited to:

Great reception - as good as the Defy
Battery life - As good as the Defy (hard to get with larger, brighter screens)
    Screen - 720 x 1280 pixels, 4" to 4.3"
32 gig on board storage with expandable storage
And of course, boatloader unlocked and rootable out of the gate.

Fair enough, I guess I just discount the Defy out of hand because for ME it's out of date just like the Milestone/Droid 1. Give me a moto with Ice Cream Sandwich at least

I am finding it hard to keep the Defy in my hand after having the large screen of the DHD.

Hopefully soon there will be a Motorola with ICS and the screen, battery and reception we are demanding.

Thanks for the feedback on the Note's RF performance. Does anyone have an HTC Hero on hand to compare against? This is what I currently have.
