Is it possible to get ios 5.0.1 if it was skipped???

I bought my sister a used iphone few weeks before 5.0.1 became untethered. She is a flight stewardess and can not afford to leave the phone turned on while on the flight and she's not a tech savy. She however still wants to have all the joy a jailbroken iphone has. That said, I downgraded her phone from 5.0 to the last untethered 4.3.3 for which I was successful.

Last week, along with the new ipad launch, apple also released 5.1 on iTunes. Since I don't see my sister often, I opted to delay her upgrading to the jailbreakable and untethered 5.0.1. I tried to install 5.0.1 by using Itunes and with the shift-restore using the firmware which can be found online, only to receive the 3194 error. I tried a number of tweaks online (changing host file, bla bla), but to no avail. Is it actually possible to get to 5.0.1 even if it was skipped on the update? i'm not very familiar with saving shsh, and she can't wait for untethered 5.1 (and i am aware of the tethered 5.1, but my sister isn't familiar of the DFU more + redsnow process, so it is not an option)... any output would be very helpful... thanks

Nope. 5.0.1 is no longer signed by apple. Even trying to recover using saved blobs doesn't work. You'll have to wait for a 5.1 JB for the 4s. There is, though, a tethered JB for 5.1 for the iPhone 4.

    That's not accurate.
Does she have the SHSH saved for 5.0.1?
Likely she does since it was jailbroken prior to 5.0.1 even being out. You do NOT need to be on an iOS to save the SHSH for that iOS. (example: I'm on 5.0.1 but can save my shsh for 5.1).

SO, get tinyumbrella (google it. you may also see firmware umbrella as the site)
Attach phone and click Save my SHSH.
It'll tell you all the SHSH you have available and save them to your computer.

IF you have 5.0.1 SHSH then you can proceed.

you need to restore to a custom with stitched blobs if you want to sucessfully restore to 5.0.1. Save your 5.0.1 shsh to your computer using TinyUmbrella then use Sn0wbreeze 2.9.2 iFaith mode to create a custom ipsw with stitched blobs.
direct your host file to apple servers. Just add this to the last line of host file
    gs.apple.com
make sure you are in pwned dfu when restoring to avoid 16xx error. Sn0wbreeze custom ipsw will not update your baseband.
I like to set up as new after since I feel it best avoids bugs. But up to you. You can try restoring it.
Of course you can backup data using iBye as well from cydia. works great.

Hi both, thx for the note. My sister never updated to 5.0.1. The highest it got to was 5.0 which I downgraded to 4.3.3 when untethered 5.0.1 wasn't available. Her phone never touched the 5.0.1 upgrade or firmware. I guessed that leaves us both choice less but to wait for pod2g's 5.1 jb eh?

You don't need to have installed 5.0.1 to have the blobs for that ios. In fact there are people who have 5.0.1 installed and don't have the blob for it. All that matters is if you have the blob.

google tinyumbrella to get you headed in the right direction. That having been said, regardless of the noise in this thread, unless you had previously saved you SHSH's while Apple was signing them, there is no way for you to get 5.0.1 onto your iPhone 4. You are simply too late...

You should still be able to downgrade back to 4.3.3. Download tinyumbrella and see what shsh the phone has stored.
